NutriSystem diet

What is the NutriSystem diet

The NutriSystem diet is the choice for dieters who do not want to think about portion sizes, planning, shopping for or cooking meals. In this diet, you simply make your food selections and then get a month's worth of meals delivered to your door in microwave-ready pouches.

The NutriSystem is healthy. The meals are low in sodium, saturated and trans fats, and include whole grains and a wide range of foods.  This portion-controlled diet offer an advantage for anyone who has trouble with meal portion sizes.

The NutriSystem diet plan started in 1972. Today the nutrisystem diet is modified according to the modern needs of dieters. It features the NutriSystem Advanced plan (launched in 2008), which is a "glycemic advantage" approach promoting good carbs, low fat, healthy protein, and high-fibre, ready-cooked meals. NutriSystem Advanced meals also contain soluble fibre and omega-3 fatty acids to promote heart health and feelings of satisfaction.

The glycemic index is a popular weight loss tool, based on the idea that foods ranking low on the glycemic scale help stabilize blood sugar and reduce cravings for food. The premise of the NutriSystem plan is eating high-fibre, low-fat foods with optimal amounts of lean protein to curb cravings and satisfy hunger on very fewer calories.

With the Nutrisystem diet, women follow a 1,200-calorie plan, and men are allowed 1,500 calories a day. Meals are chosen and delivered through mail from the Internet-based diet program (nutrisystem.com). Meal and dessert options are available in shelf-stable pouches that can be conveniently heated in the microwave oven. The food costs approximately $280-310 per month.

In addition to receiving the prepared meals, dieters are encouraged to learn to modify their daily eating behaviors. They receive a 12-week, self-guided "Mindset Makeover" behavioral guide, written by Temple University obesity expert Gary Foster, PhD, which explains everything from curbing cravings to the importance of social support. In addition to this, diet and fitness guidance, a weight loss community, and support are also available online. Counselors are available over the telephone.

With the course of The NutriSystem diet, daily exercise is also recommended. Dieters can use the demonstration CDs included in their packet or choose online fitness plans that can be tailored accordingly to various fitness levels. Options of exercise in NutriSystem diet include aerobics, yoga, and resistance-training programs.

Process of NutriSystem diet

Dieters choose from more than 120 entrees and desserts that are designed to be balanced in protein, fat, and good carbohydrates. The diet is made up of 55% carbohydrates, 20% protein, and 15% fat. Most of the NutriSystem meals are lower in saturated and trans fats, sodium and very rich in whole grains. The meals are supposed to be supplemented with 6 -7 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Dieters eat five meals a day, which will help control hunger.

NutriSystem started off with most of its clients being women. Now, you can also get a men’s plan and a senior adult plan for both men and women. NutriSystem also have plans for vegetarian dieters and those suffering from Type II diabetes.

The NutriSystem diet is based on the glycemic index.  The food provided in this diet is shipped to your home every four weeks. The process that is used to pack the food allows your food not to be refrigerated. Easy to follow instructions tell you how to prepare each dish under the program.

The food consists of portions that are packaged to provide nutrients and low glycemic index foods to the dieters. The plan does encourage participants to add low fat milk and dairy, salads, and fruits to every NutriSystem meal. The main concern is the amount of carbohydrates that we eat.

The plan does not shun exercise but it is designed to in a manner that you can even work without it. Exercise can only enhance this program. The meal delivery program is expensive, but you may qualify for a payment plan also. If you can afford to spend several hundred dollars on yourself, then this may be the plan for you.
