Blood Type Diets

Blood Type Diet (O, A, B and AB)

The blood type diet is a diet designed according to the different blood types of individuals. This type of diet is based on the theory outlined by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo. It is a nutrition plan based around your blood type, and you should eat according to your blood type. These diets include food like meat and fish diet, white grains, potatoes, cereals, breads, pasta are not encouraged. Interestingly, certain vegetables and fruits are also banned. Any kind of diet, which has a long list of banned foods, can be difficult to follow.

The idea behind the blood type diet is that follow a diet that’s designed specifically for your blood group and you’ll lose weight, feel healthier, increase your energy, improve overall well being, and lower your risk of many diseases. You can also reduce weight by the blood group diet as from these diets it eliminates specific food such as bread, cereals, dairy products, meat and fish. But it completely depends on how much you reduce this type of food. The blood type diet is especially made because it is said that each blood type has certain kinds of foods and nutrients, which it can utilize in an optimal way.

Blood Types and Diet for Each Blood Type

There are four types of blood group present:

  1. Blood type O
  2. Blood type A
  3. Blood type B
  4. Blood type AB

Blood type O

This is the most common blood type amongst the four blood types present and this was first blood type, which was identified. This type is believed to be the hunter type and it was present in the earliest human blood group and it is believed that these people survived on a high protein diet, which included plenty of meat. The diet recommends that this blood group eat a higher protein diet, low-carb diet  similar to the Atkins diet. Foods, which are given preference to, are meat, fish and olive oil. Foods to avoid include dairy products, beans, cereals, bread, pasta and rice. Food, which you can eat sometimes but not regularly includes eggs, seeds, nuts and certain vegetables and fruits.

Weight can also be lost by exercising, doing aerobics, and running. The blood type O group should participate in plenty of physical activities. People with blood type O can easily digest and metabolize meat as they have high stomach acid content.

Blood type A

This is second most common blood type present. This blood type is called the cultivator and is said that it is more recently evolved blood type. This diet type is being compared to our ancestors when they had settled in farming and agriculture. So blood type A foods include mainly vegetarian foods which includes nuts, seeds, beans, pasta, rice, cereals, fruits and vegetables. The food which this blood type should avoid are dairy products and red meat.

Dairy products are not digested well by this blood type and can cause slowdown of metabolism. This blood type can take some limited amounts of fermented dairy products like kefir, yogurt, non fat sour cream, and cultured dairy products. Blood type A should eat plenty of fruits but should avoid mangoes, papaya, and oranges. Tofu should be a staple food in this diet. Intake of vegetables should be plentiful as they provide minerals, enzymes, and antioxidants.

Blood type B

This blood type is not as common compared to blood type A and O. One person in 10 has this blood type. These blood types are also known as the nomads. This blood type has strong immune system and flexible digestive system. they are the balanced omnivores. Dairy products and meats are essential to their diet. People with blood type B can also take grains, fruits, vegetables, beans and legumes. Food which should be avoided include processed foods, nuts and seeds, corn syrup, and rhubarb. Blood type B individuals should participate in all types physical activities including swimming, tennis, hiking, and walking.

Blood type AB

This is very rare blood type, and in this type it is suggested to consume food that's combinations of both blood type A and B.

The Blood Type Diet by Peter D’Adamo is based on the premise that blood type is the most important factor in choosing a healthy diet. Based on this diet, you should eat foods that are non-toxic and beneficial according to your blood type. There are 4 diets recommended for each blood type.

The AB blood type is an intermediate between blood types A and B, and follows a mixed diet in moderation including meat, dairy, beans, vegetables, grains, and fruits.
