Total Gym Exercise Equipment Models Compared

Comparing Total Gym 1000, 2000, and Total Gym 3000

Okay, so you want to get a Total Gym, but it's got so many models like Total Gym 1000, 1500, all the way up to Total Gym GTS - what should you get? If you read our Total Gym review, you'll see that I don't think you're getting your money's worth if you go over the Total Gym 3000 series. Simply because the extra perks you get with the high end models aren't worth all the extra big bucks! You can get just as good a work out with the more basic Total Gym models. So save your hard earned cash.

So with all these Total Gym models, what are the differences? What's better for your particular situation? Well, I did some digging, and I'll make a quick comparison of the more basic Total Gym models 1000, 1500, 2000, and 3000.

Total Gym 1000 is first in line of the Total Gym exercise equipment family. It's the most basic model, but it can pretty much do everything higher models can do. With each step up in the Total Gym models, you get a little bit extra. Such as a thicker pad, slightly bigger board, or ability to accommodate more weight and height.

Below is a table giving a quick overview of the major differences between the different models of Total Gym. I'm not even gonna compare the super high end models like Total Gym 14000 and GTS - I just don't think they're worth the money.

Okay, so with all the major difference between these 5 models of Total Gym right in front of you, your decision making should be a lot simpler.

Here's a quick over view of the major differences between the Total Gym models:

  • Total Gym 1000, 1500 has max weight of 250lb. Total Gym 2000, 3000 has max weight of 300lbs, while the 1700 club model goes up to 325lbs
  • Total Gym 1000, 1500, 1700 uses 1/2 inch foam. Total Gym 2000, 3000 models use 3/4 inch and 1 inch respectively
  • Total Gym 1000, 1500 allow up to 50% use of body weight as resistance. Total Gym 2000, 3000 allows up to 60% (Note, the Total Gym 24000 model allows up to 70% with 10 levels, but for the amount it costs, its not worth it)
  • Total Gym 1000, 1500, 1700 has 1 year warranty. Total Gym 2000, 3000 has lift time for frame and 2 years for parts.

You'll notice that the biggest features step up is between Total Gym 1500 and Total Gym 1700. Total Gym 1000 is by far the cheapest, but it's also the skeleton model, and the next level up 1500 isn't that much better. So, that's something to consider.

One major advantage of Total Gym exercise equipment is it's ease of assembly. Unlike most weight machines, I'd say you can probably put one together in just a few minutes.
