I know people that have almost given up weight
training all together because of improper or negative motivation.
I, myself have thought about calling it quits many times.
So, if you don’t want to give up this great sport
because of something you think you cannot overcome, this
article is just for you.
10 Ways to Keep Motivated
In this article I’m going to give
you ten great ways to keep motivated day in and day out.
Starting with number 1:
1. Take before and after pictures and
then compare the two. Seeing results will further motivate
you to do better and better. Do not only look at pictures
of yourself but also of other bodybuilders. Professional
bodybuilders are a key to my motivation. I know when I look
at a picture of one of them it makes me just want to go
out there and tear up my weights so I can one day get that
freakishly huge.
2. Think about all those ladies you’ll
be getting with your new body. Trying to impress people
keeps me going in the right direction. If you have the urge
to impress people, you will want to keep lifting those weights.
3. Lift weights for fun, not as a chore.
One way to really lose motivation is to think of lifting
weights as a chore that you have to do all the time. This
is like having to go to work when you hate you job and are
having a really bad day. It just plain sucks. So stop lifting
weights out of torture and do it for fun.
4. Do you love to listen to music? Well
why listen to the jams when you are working out. Sometimes
cranking up your favorite tunes can make you seem like you
can do anything, and this usually works very well with bodybuilding.
5. Do not set long-term goals. I’m
not saying it’s a bad thing to have them, but when
it comes down to motivation, you definitely want to set
smaller short-term goals. Short-term goals are much easier
to achieve because they do not take as long to accomplish.
Waiting to complete a long-term goal can really defy your
motivation, so I suggest setting some smaller goals for
yourself.
6. Do something new. Buy yourself a new
supplement, go to a new gym, change up your routine, eat
some new food, just do something out of the ordinary.
7. Imagine this…You’re on
stage with five other bodybuilders, one by one you watch
them get eliminated until there are two people left--you
and your biggest rival. You know he’s bigger than
you and has a better chance at winning this, but don’t
let that bring you down. Keep your head up and always try
to be better than him. If you always picture him as being
bigger than you then it will keep you motivated to do better.
8. Watch a good movie. Rocky changed
my whole view about lifting weights and that was actually
the movie that got me into bodybuilding in the first place.
If you haven’t seen this movie, go out and rent it
right now, or tomorrow, but you get the point.
9. Take some time off weight training
and cardio. Take a good week off to think about what you
have achieve over the past couple months or so. When you
are done with the break, you will want to go out and list
weights all the time because you will miss it. Trust me.
10. Do it because the big guy said you
couldn’t. Don’t worry about him; he’s
a jerk anyway. Don’t let anyone put you down when
it comes to lifting weights. Just go out there and prove
them wrong by training smart and getting huge. It will be
very fun to rub that in his face later on.
I have one last thing I want to talk about
in this article. It’s about those days when just about
everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Take this for
example:
You wake up in the morning only to realize
that you’re already a half an hour late for work at
your new job. When you arrive, you find out that your boss
had a very short temper and he starts going off at you.
After that, you get into your cubical, and sit down to read
your email. Just before you get online, the phone rings.
“It’s my first day, no one knows my number here
except my girlfriend, but she’s out of town,”
you say to yourself.
Sure enough, it’s her, and she isn’t
out of town, she’s with your best friend and she just
broke up with you. Just when you think it can’t get
any worse, you go out for lunch and guess who’s there—your
ex and your best friend. You leave there quickly and try
to erase it from your memory, but you just cannot do it.
You then get back to work and your boss tells you that he
wants to talk to you after work. The next thing you know,
you’re fired.
Well, that may be a slightly exaggerated
story but you get what I mean. If this has ever happened
to you, you know how difficult it is to pick up the weights
again. If you can focus all of your energy, positive and
negative, into your routine, you should have no problem
overcoming this horrible day. Channel all your energy into
each rep of each set. If you feel like you cannot do it,
just try as many as you can, then go out and have some fun
for a little bit, then come back and start it all over.
There’s nothing wrong with skipping a day of training
as long as it doesn’t become habitual.

Final thought – Motivation is one
of the biggest, if not THE biggest, factor in bodybuilding.
You need motivation to keep you going and to keep getting
bigger and bigger. Without it most bodybuilders are useless.
They wouldn’t be able to go anywhere with the proper
motivation. However you decide to motivate yourself, I hoped
this article helped you. I leave you with this quote,
“To be successful, you must decide
exactly what you want to accomplish, then resolve to pay
the price to get it.” – Bunker Hunt |
