need to focus on your diet really.

as long as your protein intake is enough then you should be doin a lot of cardio (5 times per week, 45-60mins steady pace minimum) and lifting weights to maintain the muscle, the fat will come off, aim to lose 2lbs of fat per week, no more.

heres a few articles i found recently that give an insight into some fitness models diets and regimes:

Bodybuilding.com - Josh Englehart - Male Transformation Of The Week - Josh Englehart.

Neil Rigney Male Model - How to get a Model physique

Meet Our Fitness Models Team - Anthony Catanzaro Diet & Exercise Advice

The first part of this quote is on the money. Diet is the most important part, really.

As far as the advice for the cardio, that's a little excessive. Try doing some HIIT a few times a week.

I agree, it's way too much cardio and for too much time as well (60 mins???).

The trick to retaining as much muscle mass as possible while losing mostly fat is going to be mainly in the diet with some light to moderate cardio (2-3 days per week, under 30-35 mins at most or some HIIT).

If you are after keeping most or all of your muscle, then change the diet and let nature SLOWLY melt the fat off...Think melt, not burn
The slower you take it off, the more chance it will be fat and not muscle and the more chance you have at keeping it off...Try doing it quick (weeks v.s months/year) and you'll burn more muscle and have a lesser chance of keeping it off

AS LONG AS YOUR PROTEIN INTAKE IS ENOUGH

arnold schwarznegger also says in his modern encyclopedia of bodybuilding that you should be aiming for "45-60mins of steady cardio" at least 5 times per week.

cardio is villanised way too much in my opinion. HIIT is also good agreed, but a recent study showed steady state moderate cardio overall is around 5 times more effective than HIIT for fat burning.

Burn The Fat Blog: "Steady State Cardio 5 X More Effective Than HIIT????"

he said he wants to get cut, by the sounds of it he wants to be ripped, as in get his body fat into the single digits, if thats the case, then that amount of cardio is NOT exessive. just make sure your calories are in check and you still lifting and you will maintain the muscle.
The only reason bodybuilders do so much cardio is so they can lose a huge amount in a small time. But what youre not taking into consideration is theyre loaded to the gills with steroids so theyre muscle loss is minimal. The average person doesnt need to do this. Lifting heavy weights 4x a week and doing cardio on a couple of the off days is more than plenty to lean up. Its 80% diet.

Thats your problem right there dude! You are quoting guys who take steroids. Do you take roids? I don't, so they're advice means nothing to me, it doesnt apply in my world.

When I gave my advice, I spoke from my own personal experience,
I didnt quote someone. I instead spoke off what I have done in real life experiences and applications and that is far more valuable than anything read off the net or in a magazine. You know how many times I have heard "Well Arnold in fact recommends", blah blah blah..

I have been 160 lbs and ripped and skinny and I have also been muscular and bulky at 240 lbs, so I have been all up and down the dial. I know how to bulk up and I know how to cut down and from my PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, I have always burned the most muscle when I did long bouts of cardio.

If you want to lose muscle, do long bouts of cardio and/or skip meals, definitely will get the job done

With all due respect, you havent been training long and the questions you have asked in some recent threads shows your lack of experience. Who cares about Tom Vu, didnt he used to sale time shares with those informercials from the 90's?

You have a lot to learn and you should perhaps spend more of your time in a gym than online.
And please dont tell me I need to read up on some guru, as I dont have to know squat piss about Tom Venuto, I spend my time hoisting large plates and have learned quite abit in my years of training. Perhaps YOU need to keep reading about Tom Venuto, but not I, I'll just just keep doing what I am doing

I'll take real life advice, sh!t I have done... ANYDAY!
As it's the only real life advice that applies in the end.
Once you become to know your body and how to get it to react, then that knowledge is far more valuable than anything you ever read on the net or in a book.

The fact you mention Arnold's book shows you how respected your knowledge of the game is. Anyone who knows training knows Arnold's book is worthless to the common Joe. The exercise references are handy but other than that it's garbage and thats ARNOLD's book I speak of, yes, Arnold the great! I can say it with no problem as the truth is easy to speak.

well i guess thats why there is so much controversy in these matters, what works for some may not work for others.

my opinion though is that your body will NOT burn muscle if a) your lifting weights and b) your getting sufficient protein into your system every day.

if your lifting weights and your getting enough protein then why would your body burn muscle and not fat? at the end of the day its calories in vs calories out, if your creating a deficit but making up the loss in protein by taking in extra then the muscles will be fine surely?

i'll take tom venutos advice any day.

Lol. Newbie.

You contradicted yourself. If your arguement is that weight loss is due to a calorie deficit compared to normal intake of calories, then how is filling that deficit with protein equate to a deficit at all?

I don't think that's what you or Tom Venuto means. Think about what you're gonna say before you try to give someone else advice.

that is what tom venuto was trying to say.

who knows though right, he probably wasn't thinkin straight with that syringe in his arm and all those steroids he pumps eh.
If i had to bet the farm on whether or not he uses steroids id go with yes all day long. You dont fvckn know him so youre defending him just makes you look like that much more of a newb. keep it up.
