Hi everyone.
I'm new here and really looking for advice. I'm a 35 year old female who weighs 13 stone (182lb) which is way too heavy for my 5"5 height. My body fat is right up there at around 38%, i'm a walking advert for why not to yo-yo diet as it just gets you in worse shape. I'm getting married in July this year and started my workout plan nearly 3 months ago. I go to a personal trainer twice a week and started swimming 4 weeks ago, i'm upping the trainer to 3 times a week from next week. I'm familiar with training and love weights. My problem is the weight loss - if I follow the suggested fat loss plans - eating 5 times a day etc, the weight loss is so slow. However I have previously used shakes to lose weight by drinking them thru the day and eating protein and veg in the evening and I do loose this way quiet easily. Should I therefore lose the majority of my weight this way and then stick to a five meal a day plan when I am say 11 Also just to mention, this isn't just a fad thing for my wedding, I am serious about training and fat loss etc, i've just lost my way and need some real advice. Also if there are any site where I can have someone actually create a diet for me which will suppport my training and goals then I would love to hear about it. Many Thanks K |

Welcome Kaci!
In the "For what it is worth" column, I lost 35 pounds in 2.5 years. I did it by eating 5 meals a day (High Protein, low Carb, low Fat) and working out 3-4 days a week. I then added Tae Kwon Do training to my routine. My workout numbers (weight amounts) grew as my waist and BF dropped. What you desire is achievable and, best part, maintainable!

Height 5 feet 5 inchs Weight: 13 Stone (182 lb) BF: 38% Well for the first 2.5 months I ate: Breakfast: 1 small can tuna, small amount wholemeal rice Snack:Piece of fruit or ryvita with ham. Lunch: 2 wholemeal ryvitas with either ham or tuna. Snack: same as before Dinner: Chicken breast with lots of vegatables. While I followed this for say 2.5 months to be honest because after 1.5 months I didn't drop any weight I lost heart so wasnt as rigid, its just so frustrating as I do work hard and feel I put in alot of effort but getting no results. Since then I changed and have been eating bran cereal for breakfast, same lunch, dinner and snacks as above. My problem is I just dont know what to follow i've confused myself reading too many magazines and books, I'm very good at sticking to a diet and can be very strict with myself but its hard when I dont even know if I am doing the right thing. I would love it if someone could give me a diet plan to follow or guide me in the right direction to find one as I know if I have someone who I feel knows what they are talking about (as I know you all do), who can tell me exactly what to eat and in what amounts then I would be happy to stick with it. Would you ever recommend drinking shakes in replacement of daytime food to help drop initial weight?? I know its not the best option but welcome your views on this. Many Thanks Kaci |

Kaci---are you still on the board or lurking?
Yo yo dieting and crash diets can harm your metabolism (been there!) and to recover can take a long time and a lot of work. Your diet isn't that bad. Weight loss should be slow, unfortunately *w* Do you measure your food intake? I think i know what those ryvita things are, are they like crackers almost (melba toast-like texture?). Just curious. I would love to try and help you. Maybe we can tighten things up somewhere Are you drinking anything other than water? (Coffee, carbonated drinks, etc?)
