Default B.M.I and Body fat %
Just went in to my gym this weekend with my training partner. And booked ourselves in for the Body comp test.
My results.....didn't make me want to quit the gym.
Body fat 24.4% and B.M.I of 31.6.
my training partner who is in VERY good shape compared to myself
Body fat 22.6% and B.M.I of 30.2.
This is not possible........ he has a 6 pack for christ sakes and looks like he doesn't have an inch of body fat anywhere. Yet according to this test, where they press down on your bicep and send a "MAGETIC PULSE" through your body........says we are both obese!!!
I'm 5' 8 and weigh 205 and he is same hight and weighs 215 and is loads more definned and alot stronger.
Now i have since talked with others who are in great shape and said their test came back the same. Is this gym telling people that they are so out of shape so they keep the dues up and stay?? Would a large chain like Extreme fitness lower themselves to such a level to make a buck????

Don't pay any attention to those electronic counters. I was checked a couple of months ago at my gym with the one where they hook up a wire to you foot and hand and measure the amount of time it takes to go through your body. It said I was 13% bf, yea right I have a gut I'm closer to 20% I only go off of the calipers now.

that stuff isn't crap. Said the same for me, except I was 30% fat...hahaha. The lady played with that machine for 20 minutes because she knew it was so far off. We agreed on 10%, so that's what she wrote on my paper.

Calipers is the only way to truly tell, that or being submerged in the water tank.

My gym only has the calipers. In fact, they're doing my BF% test tomorrow night at my request. I don't know how much stock I'd put in that test you took...

No, those machines just arent accurate. And the people running them dont know any better. Thats all.

I think they're $10 with Bertha's sweat still on them...

Either way, calipers aren't that much money and are more accurate than that machine they put him on...

Calipers.... 2 different body fat scales said I was around 17%.... then the next week I was 11.5% ever time...

Do I look 17%...???

My bf calipers say 11-12%.... I go by those now... bf scales are crap...
