Default Green Tea

I know that green tea is supposed to be really good for all sorts of things going on in one's body. My problem is, I seem to be allergic to it!!!! Are there any other supplements that would have the same effects as GT out there?

Default reactions

I've tried green tea in a variety of ways....actual beverage, in dietary supplements and...oddly enough, as a soap....every time, the reaction is similar: with the soap, i break out along my legs and face, with ingesting it, i tend to swell up like a balloon for a day or two...plus the itching....

ah man that sucks. but there are plenty of other foods that are high in antioxidants. try these.

berries
broccoli
tomatoes
grapes
garlic
spinach
carrots
soy

these are foods which have good antioxidants in them. i would go with the berries.

i think some of the berries help with long term cognitive funtions as well. but stop with the green tea i guess. and make sure to check your vitamins to see if it contains it.

good luck!

Unhappy losing the weight

after a surgery and an accident about 2 years ago, i spent quite a bit of time sedentary...also kinda got bored with my workout routing. now, i've moved into a place that has a state-of-the-art workout center (one reminiscent of one i used to work in) and i know now's the time. i've ballooned up to a sickening 325 pounds, when ideally i should be hanging around the 210-220 area, so i've launched myself anew, eating better, finally working out again, and looking for a dietary supp that won't make me swell like a king cake at mardi gras...oh, and as for a multi-vitamin, again, no go...apparently it throws off the balance in my body's system, something it seems to always have done (according to mom).

ok so ill be straight up honest. if your just starting to eat healthy and excercise again then dont take anyting except protein shake and a multivitamin. before you start doing everything to lose weight setup a daily meal plan, setup a workout routine. if possible have someone to keep you in check and make sure you stay good.

i speak from personal experience. i havent cahnged to much but i know how you feel. i hit 295 and i said wtf is wrong with me. why am i ruining myself. so before i started trying to lose my stuff. i tried to learn how to do my workout routine, i learned how to eat clean.

after a month and a half i lost 35 pounds. and thats just from clean eating and working out. no supps needed.

but after that i hit sort of a peak and it just stopped, so now im trying out some supplements.

im taking fish oil pill, CLA, Sesathin, multivitamin. and i have my shakes.

now even though its slow im losing it but im also getting alot stronger and feeling better and healthier.

so overall, screw the weight loss pills for now, get some low cal shakes, get some multivitamins. clean your eating, and setup a excercise schedule. after that i believe that you will lose weight.

sorry for the length and if this was not helpful at all , my bad. i just understand the feeling of letting yourself go and wanting to change

i say vitamins would be good. but just eat a varied diet and it should be ok.

CookieMonster is right....You should listen to him he is making signifigant progress with his fitness goals.

Some killer antioxidants to try (stronger than green tea, Vit C, Vit E)

Pycnogenol
Schizandra Fruit

Pycnogenol is expensive (really F'n expensive), but it rocks! There are too many good effects to list...do a search on it...

Schizandra Fruit is equally good and costs less....

If you still want to stick with the tea you could try white tea...it is also a good antioxidant.

little study on green tea (EGCG)

Obes Res. 2005 Jun;13(6):982-90. Related Articles, Links

Green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate inhibits adipogenesis and induces apoptosis in 3T3-L1 adipocytes.

Lin J, Della-Fera MA, Baile CA.

444 Edgar L. Rhodes Center for Animal and Dairy Science, University of Georgia, Athens, GA 30602-2771, USA.

OBJECTIVE: Green tea catechins have been shown to promote loss of body fat and to inhibit growth of many cancer cell types by inducing apoptosis. The objective of this study was to determine whether epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), the primary green tea catechin, could act directly on adipocytes to inhibit adipogenesis and induce apoptosis. RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURES: Mouse 3T3-L1 preadipocytes and mature adipocytes were used. To test the effect of EGCG on viability, cells were incubated for 3, 6, 12, or 24 hours with 0, 50, 100, or 200 microM EGCG. Viability was quantitated by MTS assay. To determine the effect of EGCG on apoptosis, adipocytes were incubated for 24 hours with 0 to 200 microM EGCG, then stained with annexin V and propidium iodide and analyzed by laser scanning cytometry. Both preadipocytes and adipocytes were also analyzed for apoptosis by terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling assay. To determine the effect of EGCG on adipogenesis, maturing preadipocytes were incubated during the 6-day induction period with 0 to 200 microM EGCG, then stained with Oil-Red-O and analyzed for lipid content. RESULTS: EGCG had no effect on either viability or apoptosis of preconfluent preadipocytes. EGCG also did not affect viability of mature adipocytes; however, EGCG increased apoptosis in mature adipocytes, as demonstrated by both laser scanning cytometry and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase dUTP nick-end labeling assays. Furthermore, EGCG dose-dependently inhibited lipid accumulation in maturing preadipocytes. DISCUSSION: These results demonstrate that EGCG can act directly to inhibit differentiation of preadipocytes and to induce apoptosis of mature adipocytes and, thus, could be an important adjunct in the treatment of obesity.

a good extract is going to be as good or better than whole brewed tea (especially low grade commerical teas like lipton)

How much (mg) do you take a day? The first place online I saw has 50 30mg pills for $14.55, doesnt seem too bad if you only take one a day. Unless this is poor quality stuff or something
