Default Upper Left Pectoral Soreness

This is my first post on the forum and I attempted to search for past threads, but I was hoping I could get some insite on what I may have done to myself.

I am male, 6'5", 200 Lbs and have been working out hard for the last 3 months 5 days a week. Everything has been going great until I got to the gym last Friday. It was chest day and as I was going through my excercises i noticed my upper chest on the left side was very tender and once I got to incline bench I realized that the pain was relatively substantial. I stopped doing incline immediately and now even when I take a deep breath, laugh, cough or sneeze I get pretty excrutiating pain on the upper portion of my left pectoral muscle. It also hurts to touch.

Now I don't know if this is a strain or a tear because I have not noticed any bruising, but I am going on day 3 of pretty severe pain. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Drew

What are your symptoms now a few days later?
It will be alot easier to tell now if you did cause a tear

Well it has been a few weeks now. I talked to a nurse soon after posting this and it turns out I had some how strained my rib cage muscles on my upper left side. They are actually called intercostals internus and are the muscles that hold your ribs in line.

The pain was pretty persistant for about two weeks when i would breathe, sneeze, or really do anything that required my lungs to take in air.. lol... Even today I have a little pain, but now I can actually cough and sneeze and not try to prevent it.

I am extremely glad it wasn't a pectoral strain or tear, because while side lining me from some excercises this injury did not get me out of the gym completely.

I strained my II a few years ago and the pain was annoying, not excruciating, for several months (I wouldn't let them recover). Now, mine are like armour and nothing short of a .12 guage shot could hurt them.
