You have to accept it, try to minimize it and do all the things you can do that will combat the effects of the disease, as thats exactly what Arthritis is, a disease.

Sounds to me like you just need a break from the immense heavy lifting....
Use a moderate rep scheme now (approx 10-12 reps)

if your dependent on that heavy of a pain killer just because of lifting I'd quit lifting and goto physio. if u need to cope with it weather or not u lift or not like so be it. id stop lifting heavy weight, anything over 10 reps.

I can relate. I've been lifting since I was about 14. Started powerlifting at about 24 and knees, shoulders. and sometimes hips started bothering me by 26. I had to take some time off because of a shoulder injury. In my case I think it was due to being on a high dose of prednisone for a medical condition for too long that ate away at some of my cartilage. Since then have been lifting fairly heavy, but always do cycles where I start fairly light and work up to my heaviest weights over 2-3 months and then start over. It takes awhile to make gains this way, but I guess its better than just throwing in the towel. btw, I think bigc meant anything under 10 reps.

I can relate and no, you're not alone. I don't use drugs for the pain. Overtraining is something I did to myself so I have to live with it and train around it.
