Default Left Forearm Tendonitis?

Hey all,

Starting a few months ago when I started really stepping up the weight on the bicep curls (45-50 each), I got began to feel a sharp pain. Thinking I may of pulled a muscle or began to even tear one, I rested it for a couple of weeks. I got back to working out and the pain was still there. Gradual at first, but by the end of the workout its absolutely bothersome. It isn't a dibilitating pain, just enough to really bug you.

After I was able to smoothely rep out my 45-50 sets, the pain resided for the most part, though was still faintly present. When I went to step up to 55-60, the pain returned. I've had to alter my form slightly to reduce the pain. Instead of holding the weights horizontally and curling straight to my chest, I now hold them slightly angled with the bottom portion pointing inward a bit. I realize this promotes using the shoulders to get the weight up, but I've been concentrating on it as much as possible.

To give you a better idea of where I'm feeling the pain... if you extend your left arm out and then it over so you are looking at the crease of your elbow. From your actual elbow, go up ~3 inches to what is about the middle of the largest part of my forearm and then inward about a half inch towards your body. This is where I'm feeling the pain. It is hard to give a better description but I hope this gives you a general idea of the area. Staring at physio-models makes me believe its the tendon.

Sorry for the long run-down. Anybody have any ideas on the cause, rehab or anything else I should know? Thanks a lot!

Try getting an elbow brace for tennis elbow - Ace makes a good one, so does aircast. Compression on the tendon will make a drastic difference. Also go lighter on the curls until the pain subsides. Icing it after you work out will also help. It sounds like the same problem I have. If you overdo it you can develop a chronic problem (like I did). You don't want to tear the tendon.

Thanks for the great, practical advice! I think I will take another couple weeks off of it and then start back on the lower weight to see if it eases up at all.

Thanks again.

If s a sharp stabbing feeling as though somebody is shoving a ice pick into you arm then thats a muscle/tendon issue , also could be associated with nerve issues....

::Bump:: to the above on the brace, you can probally lift with the brace on for added support..

You might not be using proper form, or its just a lil week...

Not saying you are, but alway watch your form, sometimes that can be the upsice/downfall of ones work out routine..

Also tiger balm that ***** afterwards =D

I've had this pain for a long time, but never knew what to call it. Im back at the weights after taking some time off and I have the exact same pain doing curls. I had this pain around July to November. I stopped working out in November and I started again this January, and the pain is far less, but still there. Im starting to really get mad.

Gymnut did what I had to do when I had tendonitis in my right arm. The brace worked well and I wore it daily for about 4 weeks. Back off of on the weights your using. Adjust your hand position for curls. I had to go with hammer curls for the longest times.
