I'm probably not in the right forums what with my injury is related to gymnastics but you all seem to know quite a bit about injuries. I'll try to describe some of this stuff since i don't think many of you all are interested in this kind of stuff and don't know the terminology, but i would greatly appreciate any help.
A month or so ago i did a move on the still rings called a yamawaki. I don;t need to explain what it is just know that i got above the rings (to a dip position). I fell from it but held on to the rings. I went down to a hang (basically just like hanging at the bottom of a pull up) fairly fast. My right arm stayed in front of me while my left arm was neither in front or behind. It was straight out to my left side and my weight pulled it straight up. When it did that i heard a loud pop and quickly let go because i knew something was wrong. It didn't dislocate. The thing is that since that happened, whenever i train iron crosses it hurts very bad so i can't do those anymore. Same thing with inverted crosses although they don't hurt as much, but when i do other strength holds such as front levers (hold yourself parallel to the ground with straight arms and a straight body, under the rings, and having your stomach face the ceiling) and straddle planches (same thing as front lever but above the rings, legs apart, and stomach facing the ground) it doesn't hurt at all. I used to have pain during various stretches on my shoulders but all of those have gone away. It just still hurts massively if i try to do an iron cross and as a result of that i am nowhere near being able to do it as i was before. It has been about a month and still hurts and i suspect i maybe stretched out a ligament or something. Any help appreciated!! |

Having similar thing going on. I had to have surgery on my left should about 6 years ago. Now my right is screwing up. Not sure what moves you are talking about but if you are having pain when your arm is pointed straight upwards most likely messed up the ligaments. If the pain is when your arm is at a 90 degree angle more than likely rotator duff. That is with weight. If you do end up going to a doctor, dont let them just do and xray, ask for a MRI. Thats why I am where I am... too stuborn. But take care of it, if its not a rotator cuff it more than likely stay the same or get worse but is very treatable.

Agree with above poster, skip the x-ray and insist on a MRI. Go to a specialist (orthopedic) as well, someone that knows sports injuries. Your typical ear/nose/throat doc isn't going to help you any. If something hurts, don't do it until you figure out what's going on in there.

It does seem to be getting better. I haven't trained in any positions that hurt it in a while. The other day i used a light resistance band just to see if my shoulders were getting any better. They were better i can definitely notice a difference but i don't want to start training any crosses soon since i still feel a slight pain.
Not sure if this helps a little bit. Well i went to see my trainer not to long ago. He said i probably strained my deltoid (could have been what the popping sound was). He also said it probably isn't getting any better since my chest is overpowering my back which causes my shoulders to roll forward, so when i do some of my exercises such as when i train crosses i tend to roll my shoulders forward and that doesn't help it at all. Thanks for all of your responses!! Last edited by whatamidoinghere7; 02-06-2008 at 08:52 PM. |
