Hey guys...i recently have had some stregnth loses in the chest area. I've come to the conclusion that i strained my left pectoral muscle. Its softer and seems to have lost muscle mass compared to my other side. Bench and all chest oriented exercises went down. I guess i'm going to have to take a break from all chest excercises but my question is how long until this will repair itself? Should i take extra BCAAs? Do i have to stop all shoulder and tricep workouts as well? On my push dayhs i was thinking i could still do like tricep iso excercises as well as shoulder excercises like shurgs or dumbell military press but that still hits chest doesnt it? Any ideas? I wanna continue to develop my tri's and shoulders while i take off? LMK what excercises i can still do and some tips if anyone has had this problem before. Thanks!

With what? The decrease in bench totals? Or the fact you have one pec larger than another?
If it's the pec thing, thats normal because most people are not 100% proportionate. We all vary, my pecs are not equal in size either as my left is a little more developed (larger) than the right... It could be a number of things from improper lifting form to undeveloped mind muscle connection to un-level lifting surfaces or bench units to pure genetics....It's a process of elimination to alleviating the issue. So far as your decrease in numbers, well that could be from a number of things ..... It could be overtraining or poor nutrition (which goes hand in hand with overtraining), improper form, injury, poor recovery and poor sleep patterns, which again goes hand in hand with overtraining. The list goes on and on. AND when you say your "Bench and chest exercises have gone down", what do you mean? Please dont say "5-10 lbs less" |

well probabaly both. I'm kinda a headcase when i dont keep making progress i get discouraged. 5-10 pounds less is probabaly where i'm at lol. Could stress play a factor into things? Things have been rough with the gf lately and its been bugging me alot but the gym is usually my escape. The streghth loses are only in my chest excercises though. I think i might just take a small break from my chest day for 1-2 workouts. You think thats a bad idea?

IT WILL NOT ONLY HINDER GAINS, IT CAN DOWN RIGHT STOP THEM ALL TOGETHER . When I get stressed or depressed I eat less, have you been doing that? Because a caloric decrease will definitely cause a loss in strength. But again, 5-10 lbs is nothing and should not even be considered |

It basically in a nutshell will break down protein in muscles and connective tissue and turn them into glucose and glycogen - other wise known as CATABOLISM (the body eating it's own muscle for fuel) . It's the opposite effect of the body creating muscle (ANABOLISM) So one must try to keep themself as stress free as possible I try to have lots of sex and play golf Last edited by BiggerGuns=LongerDrives; 10-08-2007 at 06:21 PM. |

Eating is a major factor in building muscle, making gains and avoiding overtraining. Eat, eat, eat and eat...Lots of protein, good carbs, veggies 5-6 meals a day minimum. And mega dosing BCAA's is never a bad idea, just hard on the pocket book, so up to you...I dont even take BCAA's myself |

I've been keeping the diet clean. I never eat out anymore. No more school lunches. Unless theres a girlled chicken sandwich. Always prepare food ahead of time. Goin to grab some beef tenderloin from downstiars in a bit. I guess its the cortisol thing. Now how the hell am i gettin rid of that haha. I guess thats my problem.

I'm really glad to find this board, and especially this thread. My left pec did something on my first day at the gym, doing leg curls of all things. I was face down on the bench, and something just gave way.
Walked it off, and did a week at the gym with no problem at all, then yesterday (11 days later), same thing happened in the same way on the same bench. Couldn't do anything. Couldn't even take a deep breath, like I had a cracked rib or something. Took today off, and everything is much improved. Can breathe deep. I saw advice here to take 7 days off. I was kinda hoping to get back tomorrow... will the same thing happen again? (I'm new at this gym and don't want the staff to know how much of an idiot I am... they'll find out soon enough.) I have a doctor's appt scheduled for May 22, 1 week from today. Thanks -- great site! peteg |
