Default damn hamstrings!!!!!!

lol i hate them. this is the second time for my right hammy that i may have possibly strained. heres the situation:

i was running hills for my cardio which i only do 2 days out of the week. yesterday i did deads and other back stuff.

so today i just ran 3 hills, was feelin a good burn.
then halfway up the 4th hill i feel a sharp pain in my right hammy and right away i knew i was done, and that pissd me off SOOOOOOOOOOO bad. i hate being unable to perform.

well i can walk, and only time it hurts is like certain angles and bends when i sit down or get up. you guys think its just a strain? i think thats all it is. if so, should i take time off lifting and how much?

im gna ice it all night and stay on ibuprofen and see how it feels by friday, which is my leg workout day. i do have my push day on wednesday, but i might take a week off all together.

should i just take a week off everything til next monday? or longer?

The same type of injury happend to me but I was during a leg workout when it happend, and it was also my right hammie. The first couple days after it was hard to walk and bend over to put on socks, etc. I didn't stretch for the first week just b/c it would cramp up if I pulled the leg in or w/e, I just iced 3+ times a day.

For lifting I took 1 week off for legs and be careful on deadlifts go light first and see how you feel. Next 2 weeks for legs I just went really light and iced after each leg workout. It is feeling a lot better now, probably almost healed but still icing. By next week I should be ready to go for legs, hopefully. lol

..Just remember to ice A LOT, that helped me a ton.

You'll know when it's better - but stay on the side of caution. You seriously need to work on flexibility in that area, but also focus on the hips, groins glutes and quads as well. I can't remember the last time I had a ham injury, but when I was younger, they dominated me and they aren't fun.

Some clients come in my studio or show up at the track a few minutes late and their first instinct is to skip their warm up. I'd rather have them skip their workout then that. If it's a time thing, I always ask "Do you have time to be injured?"

ALWAYS warm up beforehand, and make sure you stretch. First it is a strain, then the next thing you know it is torn.

How many times have people on this board posted about stretching? Its a critical part of living an active life, ESPECIALLY as an athlete. Focus on not only hamstrings and quads, but also your groin, hip flexors, calf muscles and even your achilles area.
