Default Muscle Relaxers?

Hows it going everyone. Here's what happaned.

SAT 13MAY
I was working my traps by doing dumbbell shoulder shrugs, 40 pounds each dumbbell, and in the middle of my second set both my traps, mostly the lower region down by my neck, started to hurt and get stiff. Like I pulled that muscle. I'm pretty sure I did because about a year ago I was doing the EXACT same thing, except with 50 pounds per dumbbell and got the same pain. I went to my doctor and he gave me a muscle relaxer called, I might spell it wrong "Flexeroll". After about a day of streching and taking the pills I felt fine. From then on, until SAT, I only did barbell shrugs. Well SAT I thought I would give it a shot but with less weight and now my traps are killing me. I have very limited range of movement, but I been steching non-stop too and things are getting better, but very slowly.

Now, I know I should go to the doctors again, but I dont want to. I was wondering if anyone knows of an "Over the Counter" muscle relaxer. I dont even know if they make those. I did a search on Google and for the first three pages it was muscle relaxers by chemical name. I dont know what the hell all that jive is.

It would totally rock if someone could help, but if not, thats fine. I will eventually do something about it.

Thank you.

The only muscle relaxers I know of require a prescription. There's probably something wrong with your form when you're doing the dumbell shrugs.

Marky mark...have you tried using nitric oxide? I used to get those pains a while back but since Ive been using NO2 it has subsided....I hate to pump up a product but try it and see how it does for you...NO2 is a naturally produced gas by your muscles so it can't hurt to overload on it once in a while...Drink lots of water too...goodluck!!

Flexeril (Cyclobenzaprine) works pretty well, I agree, but it makes me really sleepy! I am not sure if there is a good muscle relaxer that is OTC...I don't really think that there is...

Default Getting Better.

gymNut-
I think youre right. When I use a barbell I feel that I can keep things under control and not move around so much, when I use the dumbbells, I fell a lot of moving. I really shouldnt have tried it with the dumbbells, lesson learned.

TrainedMind-
Youre actually the second person I have heard that from. I have used NO in the past, plenty of times actaully, but I always used the barbell for shrugs too. Once I heal, I will pick up some NO again and give it another shot (with better form of course). Since you mentioned it, that makes two reliable sources so I will try on my next cycle.

TRAZ
I couldnt find any OTC stuff, but I just been streching it out a lot and its getting better. I am in that "OK, I'm not totally fvcked, just temporarily damaged" stage. Another week and I'll be set.

Thanks everyone, you guys rock!!

Flexeril is in the benzo family - you know my opinion on that sh!t....
I think it's a prescription drug - don't use that cr@p for more than a couple of weeks at a time.

Default I'm getting better.

I dont need anything now. I just got done with a 32 minute run and I think it loosened me up. I'm getting better every day.

Actually, it isn't a benzo. It may have a benzene component (Flexeril=CycloBENZaprine), but it has a totally different mechanism of action in the body. It is more closely related to the Tricyclic Antidepressants (especially Elavil) and it isn't really addictive. It does cause sedation, but it isn't euphoric or anxiolytic. An overdose of Flexeril isn't anything like a benzo overdose. Flexeril overdoses involve heart issues (arrythmia/ conduction disorders/ heart block) and not so much respiratory/ CNS depression which is the case with benzos. Probably a more dangerous drug than benzos really in terms of possible sides...

Yeah, it probably would be if you took high doses or took it for a long period of time. Fortunately, it isn't addictive or "fun" to take so that isn't really a problem. There is just no reason to take more than a regular dose. It is ok for occasional use IMO.

Yes, I was prescribed Flexeril by my doctor before. She gave me several refills on it. I keep some on hand for occassional use if I get a serious strain or muscle soreness. But I dont and wouldnt use it for long periods of time.

Muscle relaxers are not otc formany reasons since it relaxes the simple muscles in your nody and your heart is one , well get the drift

FLEXERIL (cyclobenzaprine), SOMA (carisoprodol), SKELAXIN (metaxalone), and NORFLEX are commonly used muscle relaxants. These should generally not be used in patients with a history of urinary retention or glaucoma. If you have urinary retention or glaucoma, please call this to the attention of your physician.

Possible Side Effects of Muscle Relaxants

FLEXERIL may impair mental and physical abilities required for driving or operating hazardous machinery. FLEXERIL should not be used with alcohol.

FLEXERIL may cause drowsiness, dry mouth and dizziness. Fatigue, nausea, constipation, dyspepsia, unpleasant taste in the mouth, blurred vision, headache, nervousness and confusion may also be caused by FLEXERIL. These symptoms may be worse for elderly individuals.

Concluding Guidelines

It is important to avoid alcohol while using any of the above medications (with the exception of Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Medications).

While you are taking narcotic pain medications, it is imperative that you do not drive a vehicle.

If you feel that you are having a reaction to your medication, contact your physician. If you have been using any medication longer than six months, ask you physician if you should have blood tests performed.

I feel theres other muscle relaxers that are a lil bit better i myslef wa son them caus eof my siatic when i was younger and this particular one i took seemsed to be the only one that stopped the spasms the above one i thrw te info on didnt

Take the pain and learn from it? Dude could have some permanent damage or something. Besides, we all pull muscles, sometimes it just happens.
