Default knees hurt when I run

One of the things I add to my workouts is running on a treadmill. I have not ran in about 5 years. But my knees have stated to bother me. It feels like I have a headache in my knees, they just ache. About 5 years ago I was told I had tendonitis and my ligaments get inflamed. I use to play a lot of basketball and softball. What can I do to make this stop if any thing. I want to be able to continue to run on the treadmill. I was told to take 12 advill a day for the pain, is this OK?

Well treadmills are quite bad for the knees especially when you haven't been running for 5 years. I would recommend you to do workouts for the legs and run shorter distances in the beginning. This should work if you don't have real problems with your knees...

Try some stair master, or cycle arobics machines for a while. Get your legs used to moving around fast. Gotta get the blood flowing good. And you should do small amounts at a time and build up.. Give yourself a couple days between these activities to heal and recover, and just dont push yourself to hard. If it keeps acting up, or gets worse you might want to consider a doctor.

A Cross trainer (eliptical) is pretty good for people with knee problems.
I get slight pain in my left knee now and then from catillage damage so I steer well clear of treadmill.
If your dosing up on pain killers just to get through your cardio, your probably doing more damage.
It may be really impractical but have you considered swimming?
Lately it's all i've been doing for cardio and it's really energising.

My wife had tendonitis in her knees, she fixed it by going to a GOOD cyropracter. She was adjusted every day for 2 weeks than 3 times a week for a month than 2 times a week for 2 months and finally 1 time a week for several months. Problem Solved!

Alot of problems people have is because of their back being out of line. Your vertibra conceal all of your nerves. If they are pinched at all they will give you problems elsewhere like in your knees and hips.

They fixed alot of things. Make sure if you get a cyroprater that they will take an xray of your back and measure the pressure points that are causing problems. This will cost between $1500 and $2000 but you will be soo much better once your vertibra are in their proper place.

Default Knee problems

Active people may experience knee pain as they age. One risk factor is being heavy. As the knees accumulate injury in the form of damage to the tendons the bones begin to rub against each other, causing that familiar pain you described.

I agree that choosing an elliptical is a good solution because it allows you to remain active and has low impact on the knees. Swimming is another alternative. Unfortunately, the problem will only get worse if you keep runnning. Knee replacement surgery is an option, but is not recommended until as late as possible in life because it has it's disadvantages. You want to get as much use out of your natural knees as you can.

Advil will not prevent the damage you are doing to your knees. You are also stressing out your kidneys by taking this much, although the max is 3.2g/day. Instead, prevent the pain from occuring in the first place.
