I am 6' and in high school I could dunk. I added 8 inches to my jump by simply doing this:

For 3 months I stood beside a wall (with my side facing the wall)outside and just kept jumping up as high as i could and tapping the wall with my hand. I switched hands every so many jumps. I would do this for as long as I could once or twice a day.

I learned this from a local basketball star named Galen Bickle, he was in Sports Ill. for scoring 100 points in a game.

My standing vertical jump went from 31" to 39" and I was dunking my senior year. The girls loved it!!

Hope this helps

That is some funny shiat. It could happen, I have seen some fat boys who could shatter the backboard. Look at Barkley, he is as fat as a hog.

you obviously have no idea what your talking about.. 1 inch above the rim? thats a joke.. even if you could palm the ball youd need to get at least your whole hand over the rim..but your a fool to think that someone who could get 1 inch above the rim could dunk.. i couldnt dunk 1 handed until i could get most of my forearm over the rim because my hands arent big enough to palm the ball i had to grip it with my forearm...

your vertical didnt go from 31 to 39 inches..if it was even 31 youd easily be able to dunk at 6 feet.. if it was actually 39 inches youd be able to do **** like nate robinson.. which i highly doubt you can. and you think your standing vertical is almost 40 inches? lmfao. thats a good laugh..

here is a site u can find many exercises u make look like a retard to the normal joe in a commercial gym. but theses i swear buy i use these i gained 4 inchs in vertical doing this with a athletic program in 12 weeks but these are what increase my vert the most.
your prob working out maybe get a basketball specific work out that you can find that is used at the university or pro lvl.

http://www.exrx.net/Lists/PowerExercises.html
Look at the lower body plyometrics
jump squats and speed squats also helped..
o yeah clean and jerks are super good for explosive movements like jumping if done properly

I know this thread has been dead for a few weeks but a couple corrections...Barkley is 6' 4 1/2", maybe 6' 5". I don't remember him breaking backboards. Darryl Dawkins shattered many backboards, he was on the Sixers too, he was 6'11" and maybe 260 lbs. They used to call them Darryl's Diamonds. They'd have to stop the game, sweep up, and get a replacement backboard.

Dunking has more to do with technique than anything else. You become a good jumper by jumping. If you can get your wrist to the rim then you should be dunking a basketball, no question, 4" over rim is plenty. I'm 6' and dunked for years in my late teens and early twenties. I started with a tennis ball to build confidence and get the technique down, actually I'd slam just about anything, tin cans, paper bags balled up, whatever I could get my hands on. Then one day I went up with the ball and there it was. There's a lot of 'mental' to it...you have to think big, get that air. If you try to get to the rim you fall short...if you try to get to the top of the backboard you just might get that rim. Workout advice would be jumping, plyometrics and really working on technique.

bump spiderman....start off dunking with a tennis ball. once you can dunk that, start trying to dunk a volleyball (easy to palm if you have small hands), and once you can throw down the volleyball you can move on to a womens basketball, and by the time you can put down a womens basketball you will most likely be able to dunk a guys ball
