The past couple weeks when I squat, the back of my legs hurt, especially on the warmup set of 130 lbs. It seems to go away by the time I get to my work set of about 260, but I feel weak and can barely get the 8 reps out. My goal is to get to 285 because my best in my last cycle was 280, but I don't know what the deal is now. The only thing I can think of is I have a new girlfriend and the inside of my legs are sore the day after "seeing" her, but we only do it a couple times a week right now. Do you think that could be it? I have also lost a couple pounds, work, school, new relationship, ect.

I think I figured out what was going wrong. For one thing I have'nt been eating enough. I thought I was, but when I added up the cals I was consuming for a couple days, it was only about 2400-2500. I should be eating at least 3000 cals a day. I also tried warming up before squating today. I only did about 3 min. on the bike, but when I squated, no pain in the hams. I got 265x8, still difficult and a little tender when I got done, but back on track. I guess at my age (gonna be 36 next month) I should start doing some warmups before I start lifting...

I'm doing stiff leg deads right now after squats. I was thinking of doing something different than regular squats my next workout cycle. Maybe I should try the lunges. Whats the correct way to do them? Hard to believe I've never done them in the 20+ years I've been lifting...

Interesting, I think I'll try either lunges of split squats my next routine. I tried to do some with just bodyweight and had trouble maintaining balance. Whats the best method to use for the first time doing them:split squats, lunges with barbell or dumbells? It seems to me that dumbells would be safest. Also is it better to do one leg at a time or to alternate?
