Default Tendonitis

My left arm has been bothering me right at my lower bicep and upper forearm. Some days its really bad, while other days I don't feel it at all. I talked to an athletic trainer and all she could tell me was to ice it when it hurts and take ibuprofen. She said it is tendonitis and will only go away with rest. Is she right?

If it is tendonitis, you need to heat it(preferbly in hot water/bathub/shower at like 115 deg. should make your arm turn red), excercise it(lightly) for about 10 min, stretch it, and then ice for 20 min. 2 weeks you shoul be good as new. Dont go hard on it or it'll only get worse.

beig in that area, you could have pulled a muscle as well. can you be more specific in your description of pain(what kind of pain?), and how intense 1-10, can you press on it firmly and make it hurt?

do you play a sport?

The pain is like sharp pains and it it hard for me to find the area where it is coming bc it sometimes feels like its running through my arm. The intensity of the pain is different day by day...At its worst, it has been an 8. When it hurts bad, I can press firmly on it and make it hurt, but some days when it doesnt hurt, i can't do that. Yes I wrestle and play ice hockey both for college, and the first time it hurt was the night after i had wrestling in the morning and hockey in the afternoon...

.. I get the same pain. Actually, sometimes it feels like it's coming from the muscles in my forearm, while other times, if I press on the tendons near my biceps, it feels bruised. Sometimes it feels like the pain is coming from my shoulder..

I usually don't have this pain during a workout, or even after a workout.. I can go a day or two without any pain after a workout, but if I do any intense mussular activity without warming up after the workout I get this massive ache in arms, near my elbow.

It's really.. really painful. I'm thinkin' it might be overtraining. Or possibly just some adolescent thing.. Or possibly overtraining!! Grr.. another two weeks off workouts then T_T.

if you can press on it and it feels like a really sore bruise when it is irritated, that is a good sign of tendonitis. do the above and it will get better.

Yes, treating it with the cold/hot method does work. I too, had tendon problems in both elbows. I went and got cortizone shots in both. Plus Im now using Cissus and my elbows feel good as new. I havent had any problems since.

almost right

Cortizone decreaeses the integral structure of the ligaments, which attaches the muscles to things.

stay away from cortizone, prednasone, and other anti-inflammatory steroids if possible.

OW! Got this pain again today.. after playing a game with my friends involving mindlessly tackling each other. My arms were already hurting after a few minutes, but then I had to go and pick up a fat kid and hurl him into the ground. Then came the intense pain. I'm thinkin' it is tendonitis, or possibly some problem with my bones.. Or bone. it only happens in my left arm.. just at the bottom of my biceps. If I press down on the bone in there, it feels really REALLY bruised. GOD! I'm so angry. I was hoping to blast my arms in a workout before camp.. to impress the chicks... and prisoners who reside close to the camp grounds. Oh well. Looks like I won't be workin' out til Thursday. T_T

Edit: GOD!!!!!!!! SO ANGRY I WANT TO DIE!!!! God, this is painful.

you CAN get "shin splints" down the radius(arm bone). Micro fractures in your arm. That really hurts like hell. I've had that too combined with tendonitits. Take it easy. It will only get better by resting it, and doing the things I posted above.

By shin splints do you mean stress fracture?

stress fracture, micro fractures, it's the same.

Micro fractures are stress fractures. They are tiny fractures in the bone due to too much stress.

Right, but shin splints are not stress fractures. In fact, it's very dangerous to mis-diagnose a stress fracture as shin splints because the treatments are different and stress fractures can cause major problems if not treated correctly.

Dang, I'm glad it's not just me and my friend.. We have been having the same problem. Carrying stuff at work just makes it seem that much worse when I hit the gym after work. I'm slowly healing, but the pain from this at first was god awful, now, somedays are worse than others. I am going to try some of the suggestions in this thread. My strength and size have been increasing astonishingly here lately, and I don't think my tendons are keeping up. I getting tired of this holding me back..
