during lower body days my lower back usually starts to cramp up..after a bit, the pain travels down into my right thigh. the pain i sually managable, but when i stop lifting, it kills me. the only comfortable position is when im laying down.
i was told this was calle the sciatic nerve, but im not sure |

the sciatic nereves are the two main nerves that run either side to your legs. When the L4-L5 disc is herniated, the sciatic nerve becomes irritated and inflammed due to friction from the herniated disc. The sciatic nerve can also be irritated by muscle inflamation, but is more rare. Another reason for nerve pain would be spondylolysis, whcih is a fracture of the pars on the lumbar vertebraes. which can progress to spondylolesthesis(big words spon-dee-low-less-thee-sis) which is where the disc will begin to shift off of the spine and star severing nerves coming from the spine(sciatic). not saying you have a bulged/herniated disk, or a broken back but about 8% of people do and never know about it or have it diagnosed. I have one, and it sucks. i'm guessing the pain goes down the outer side of your legs, more like a sharp ache? that is the sciatic nerve. If you ever feel like your leg hurts a lot and starts going numb means you have really messed up the nerve. be careful go get it x-rayed, and have an MRI on the vertical cross section of the lumbar area. you want to get this fixed quickly. I think i should be promoted to mod in the injuries section, heehee, wink wink nudge nudge.

I have a question. you guys are going to tell me that I am crazy for not going to the doc, but here it is. I was doing legs on tuesday and started out with squats. I go heavy with 4 sets of 6. After I finished the last set I felt my back hurting, but I finished all of my other lifts. Now, my lower back hurts so bad that I can barely get out of bed. I have to walk hunched over and sometimes it catches and puts me on the floor. I don't want to go to the doc because I have a really good chance at getting a job that I have wanted for years, but it requires a physical fitness test. I hurt my back when I was 16 and it took about 3 years to stop hurting, the doc said it was a tear, but last yeat he said it could have been a slipped disk. Well, this hurts a lot worse than then, what should I do.

to fix a bulged disk, you can do a number of things to keep the pain to a minimum. stretching is good. also, not bending over will help it heal. even to pick up a pencil. bend your knees, not your back. everytime you bend over you are puttin serious stress on your joints in your back. it may not feel like it, but bending over when you have a hurt disk is really bad for it. if the disk is bulged AND degenerative, like mine, you will eventually need a disk replacement surgery. i wont need oon for about 15 years, but it's there and my vert's are getting closer together by the day. not saying this is your problem, but you definitley want to diagnose your back problems. this goes for anyone. never let your back go un fixed or undiagnosed. get the problem taken care of as fast as possible.

go to the doctor. dont let it sit. A job may be less important if your back is messed up. if it is bad, and you leave it be, you may not be capable of working ever 5 years down the road. People, if you hurt your back and it hurts for even a few months, you've obviously screwed something up. go and see a doctor.
