Default Just bet with 5 ppl :S

Hey guys I just made a bet with like 5 guys saying that I can touch the rim when I'm in grade 11. Right now I'm about 6-12" short and I have a lot of fat to lose and muscle to gain. Besides working out are there any other ways to get your verticle up quickly? Right now I weigh in at 197 and have a good 20-30 pounds to lose and I'm ~15% bf. I have until the first week of September do you guys think it can be done? Feel free to post some tips on how to get it done.

Just curious, how tall are ya and how long do you have? You could try the Air Alert 2 thing, I used it for a while and saw some pretty decent results. Not sure if you can get it for free or not, but you could google it.
Good luck

did you say your 6'12? because that would be 7 feet. do you mean touch the rim as in a basket ball rim?

because if your 7 feet tall and cant touch a bball rim thats nuts.

but go for ankle weghts and calf workouts.

Default Rim

Are u serious I'm hopeing you meant 5"12 which is 6 foot, because if you are 7 foot and can't jump a foot to that rim, then something is wrong. Also if you weigh 197, that is fairly slim for 6 foot, and would be nothing but skelton at 7 foot.

20 or 30 lbs that means you would be 177 or 167 at 6 or 7 foot, I'm hopeing 6.

I use to be able to barely nick the rim in High School and I am barely 5'9. Which isn't saying much since Mugsy bogues is 5'8 and he can dunk.

Best way to improve vertical is build those leg muslces, especially the calves.
Jumprope with ankel weights, run with ankle weights, do Calf Raises, run on your tip toes, squat on your tip toes. Do regular squats. Do Leg Presses.

Work them legs, and run the fat off.

Hope that helps

yeah re-read it, he didnt say he was 6'12 or anything like that he said he was 6-12" short, so thats what he needs to make up before he can do it

Right now im 5'8 and got 7 months and I'm 6-12 inches away from the rim when I jump. I figure that theres people with weaker legs than me but weigh a lot less and jump higher than me so I'll focus on losing the weight right now and see where that gets me to. (Also I'm going to Cuba for spring break and gotta look good )

If you want to improve your bench press, then do more bench pressing.
If you want to improve your verticle, then do more jumping.

You're going to cuba? Do you live in europe or something?

2 things. ok 3. well 4.

#1 jump rope. do this 2 times a week for 30 minutes at a fast pace. substitute it for cardio if you like, but make it burn much(sore muscles should be a result). this should get your legs very springy like a cat.

#2 plyometrics. Do these after you do jump rope. do patterned jumps in diferent sequences. do them as fast as you can, for bursts of 15 seconds with 1 minutes rest between. do about 12 sets. this will impove coordination and spring.

#3 horizontal leg press. if you can do a leg press where you are parallel with the floor and do jumps with heavy weights, be careful of your back, this will improve your power off the ground

#4 lose some weight. it is affecting your vertical a tremndous amount.

I could dunk the ball in 9th grade. Of course i was and am 6'2, but then i only weighed 140 lbs. yeah, thats why my name is buffLURP. now i am at 180, and when i weighed 185 during baseball season i could dunk it, because of how i lifted my legs and did plyometrics/jumprope. at this point im sure i could touch the rim.

and just to let you know, if you are as much as 1 foot below the rim, you have 18" to go. you need to be almost 6" above the rim to get a ball through the basket. of course the bet wasnt to dunk a ball, but you might as well just for the "in your face" factor.

I have never heard a more correct statement in my life. I have never worked out. Why? Because I don't need to. Why not? I'm Chuck Norris.

Try the Air Alert 2 plyometric program. Does an amazing job of increasing verticals.

i used to do a lot of aggressive inline - i had the biggest, heaviest, most beast like blades there was at the time, plus i loved jumping the most - i once jumped 7 box crates long, with 2 stacked on top of each other, without a ramp

first time i tried to dunk, i did - basically what im saying is, add weight e.g weighted vest - an practise jumping a lot

theres loads of different jumps you can try, standing long jump is a good one - a goal would be 2 car park spaces side ways

i once jumped over a mini lol thats a good one - its just basically about jumping for your verticle - practise makes perfect
