Default 18 year old confused

Hi im 18 years old and ive been going to the gym for a year now and do all kinds of weight lifting. I work out my Biceps, chest, back, triceps and shoulders and have seen the results as my all areas have improved , however i really wanna get abs and still get bigger.
Im 6'2 ,172 pounds and i have got belly fat , if i put on a shirt no one will ever notice it , but when i take out my shirt its very visible and i think ive got a lot of fat their. However i still wanna get bigger but that would mean my gut would get bigger as well if i put more weight on.
So im confused , should i only focus on burning my fat and then try to get abs? or should i put on the weight and muscle and then try to burn fat and get abs. Can i do it at the same time?

Im really confused and need some direction , ty

hiya m8 you cannot gain muscle and weight and lose body fat at the same time, if u want to get rid out the gut i wuld suggest introducing a cutting phase lasting around 4-6 weeks to get rid of that unwanted fat and have visible abs. to keep the muscle uve worked hard for have a diet which inc a low carb med fat and high protein. introduce cardio in2 ur workout also hope this helps

the guy above me said you cant gain muscle and lose fat at the same time.. im still a newbie here but ive read alot and asked a few of my own questions.. a frequently used phrase around here is "your muscles either grow or they dont" quite simple you can burn fat and build your muscle mass at the same time my training partner killed his beer gut and gained 9 lbs at the same time... that exsess belly fat is all in the kitchen bud lay off the junk food fried garbage and soda. drink lots of water it will help your system clean up. go for chicken (breast) its a good protein supply with minimal fat content. and rice or spaghetti for carbs EAT UR GREENS and throw cardio into your regimen maybe 2 times a week. if you can do it run on a track rather than a tread. bruce lee went from 135 to 160 lbs from 67-68 while retaining a body fat of less than 5% so dont buy into (cutting and building cant be done at once) yes its easier the other way but getting big and getting looks can be done

The first thing I noticed is that, apparantly, you dont workout your legs.

Anyways, how is your diet currently?

Heya mate as the guy above me seid train your legs, the only way you get bigger is to build your entire body. The body doesn't allow it if your starting to get out of preportion to much like you can't have one massive arm and one small arm lol.
And for the best results, bulk up as much as possible then shed the fat off. Try putting some interval training 3-4 times a week, that worked best for me.

If you're weight training, 2-3x is more than enough. Interval Training (i.e. HIIT) can be extremely demanding and if you're weight lifting, it's easy to overdo it.

Nice digging btw. Not that bad. some people actually manage to dig up threads years old.

Elaborate - why can you not gain muscle and lose fat at the same time?

My .02:
When you first start lifting your actually losing fat and
gaining weight.. Thats what newbie Gains/Losses are. When your body first realizes that your hitting the gym or doing cardio or both.. Thats why you see small minimal gains.. Thats exspecially frustrating for females wanting to loose weight.. They are looseing Fat weight but you may actually gain muscle weight so they step on the scale and get mad cause they haven't lost weight. So i also dont buy in to the whole cant loose fat and gain muscle mass at the same time crap either.. You can do it you just have to have a good diet and workout.

I dont think he can elaborate as they are too caught up in the traditional methods of "bulking" and "cutting".

I've done it, but only through carb cycling
