SunnyInc. is a jewel in the rough
Default Good Gas

This might sound a bit strange but I've noticed when I hold in farts I can lift more. Any ideas as to why this is?

On a serious note:

It's probably because when you hold your flatulance, you are filling your diaphram with air and creating a air pocket that compresses against your spine to enable it to be more secure and thus more stable.
It's a method that should be applied to any over head lifting as it stiffens up the core muscles.

When you release some gas (fart) you have to expell air from the diaphram

??? I dont know, thats my guess for your flatulance problem.

.

Haha, this is too funny.

If we are looking for serious explanations, I'll give this a shot.

It may have to do with the voluntary to involuntary contractions of your lower body holding in the gas. For instance, when you first feel the urge to rip one, you tense your sphincter muscle, gluteus, abdomen and more in a synergistic fashion. By doing so, you're increasing the readiness of your core muscles (which assist in most compound exercises). Sort of like taking a rubberband and pulling it out a bit and holding until it loses a bit of the elasticity. Then the next time you go to pull on it, you can quickly exceed the point your previously pulled it to without much effort at all.

Oh, and it probably also has something to do with your discombobulator being misaligned with the flux capacitor.
