Smile Does weight lifting stunt teenagers growth

16 years old and I want to do heavy weight lifting. I used to do light, but now I want to do heavy. I am 5'8, 160 lbs, and I have heard from sources that this is a heated ongoing debate on whether or not weight lifting can stunt teens growth if done with heavy weights. What's your experience and suggestions....Oh by the way, I heard with exercises such as bench and squat if done too heavy, even though with correct form, you can stress your growth plates and block them from growing because there is too much muscle in that area to allow for growth. Is this true....

all i can tell you is i was squatting 350 pounds for 3 x8 at aged 20,dont think it did me any harm.remember to keep good form even while lifting heavy.

Im not really sure it does.

But being shorter makes everything easier IMO, except basketball.

no, you are fine. Go lift. That whole last sentence is just ridiculous if you think about the anatomy of a human. Whoever is telling you this, slap them, where ever you are reading this, find another magazine.
