Angry dumbass friend...any advice?

ok so ive been trying to give my best friend advice on how to lose weight and train correctly. He keeps going and talking to personal trainers with hardly any of their own bodybuilding experience dispite my advice. My friend tells them that i take in around 450-500g protein daily and they say i am just going to get fat from that, but some how im losing 2lbs a week and increasing muscle mass and strength. My friend thinks i know nothing and i have no idea what im talking about because he would rather listen to someone who is "certified." I tell my friend he needs at least 2800 cals daily to lose about 2lbs week. He weighs 250 like me, but he has a lot higher BF%. The trainer tells him he needs around 5000, yes 5000 calories to lose weight. The trainer also said he was training some high school kid who is losing 9lbs every 2 weeks and it's all fat. (my fvcking ass!) I showed him my personal log here and told him that alot of guys on here know what they are talking about, but he thinks yall dont know sh!t and are just internet phonies, blah blah. Im really pissed at him for disposing of my advice and following another idiot's who is obviously wrong. I didnt know what to tell my friend, so i told him to do his own thing, and when he shows no results from his super high calorie, high carb, and low protein diet not to come back to me for advice because "i dont know what im talking about." end rant..

Well, you can't talk to a wall. So you might as well stop trying. If they don't want your help, let them. You just continue to do your thing. When you're all ripped up, they'll probably listen.

bump

no offense but your friend is kinda stupid for not listening to ya. he will see you keep on progressing and he will see some results but not as many as he should.

also, he probably would need more then 2800cals at 250lbs. (most likely around 3000-3500cals to lose weight)

true, but he has significantly less muscle than i do and 3000-3200 works best for me. His body may be different, but 5000 Cals is still outrageous

Smack some sense into that boy. A good rule of thumb is 13-14 cals per pound of lbm. I cut on 2400-2500 calories a day and my LBM is 184lbs. Works for me.

he believes the trainer because he is certified and he got his info from a book and somehow the book knows everything...lol this so called book seems like a joke to me. I told my friend that he may be a certified trainer, but he is not a certified nutritionalist.(I dont have a liking for them either because of past issues with them)

He will live, and hopefully learn from it

someday he will probably tell you you were right, and then you can say damn right I was.

If he is a good friend keep at it, he may come around yet. I know in HS I didnt listen to my experienced friend a lot and ended up screwing some stuff up.

Did you tell him that some of us are Certified PTS.

5000 calories and lose weight LOLLLLLLLl. What is the PT gonna give him, some dnp and AIDS lol.

Nate is right. 1.5-2g of protein per lb is optimal. So if hes 250 thats 500g of protein and should be able to pack on some muscle and lose some fat. I would say he could eat around 3k calories and lose 2lbs a week.

And if hes stupid enough to not listen to someone whos benchin 400+ and 500+ for the other 2... than hes a dumbass. Let him talk to some weak PTS

my office mate thinks ketosis is the be-all end all weight loss method. Meanwhile he gets sick of eating that crap for food and then goes and binges and although he probably lost 20lbs I can tell he's going to gain a bunch of it back... He's also lost around 60lbs on his bench press.

some people just don't want to hear what you have to say, they will take the easy route or the advice that sounds less difficult and go with it.

I don't give advice to anyone who doesn't ask for it anymore, and even then I have to assess the person before I will bother to really discuss the concepts and point them toward the right information.

His excuse is that he isnt as dedicated as i am..its really not that hard, just follow a good weight loss diet and train correctly with cardio

Lifter 101 nailed it Vbig! You can lead a horse to water and all.... If more people listened to those of us that have made the mistakes, take some advice and swallow their pride, then this board would be Utopia! We all have our stories of how we didn't listen. Let him lanquish in his stupidity and "show" your friend how it is done. Smile politely as he goes on and on about his training and just keep getting bigger and stronger.

I weight at 250 right now, and my LBM is around 190-192, and I am cuttin gon 2700 calories. Hearing that he needs 5000 alone should tip him off that he is wasting his time with that trainer.

BTW....5000 calories, on a lower protein, higher carb diet would be 200g protein, 900g carbs, and like 66g fat, that is all kind of basic, but dang, that is so much food.

You can lead a horse to water, but that dont mean he'll drink

Some people have no clue man.
I personally think he may be a tad bit jealous of you and doesnt respect what you have to say as a result.
He has that "I'll show you attitude"

I myself would always seek out dudes with success under their belt, fvck a certification, it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.
If your friend is rejecting people in the field, who have had succes, well he is the one that is being foolish...He needs to see peoples journals here, review there progress pics, etc..

Your friend is making the mistake that thousands of people make when they go to these fitness club type trainers. The trainers are only trying to make a buck and they hardly know their as$ from a hole in the wall and care less about your friends true success. All they care about is getting through the sessions your friend has purchased....let me guess, he bought a package deal right? 5 or 10 sesssions for $150 to $300 right???

I hope your friend finds the success he needs.

Until then wear lots of tank tops around him so he knows whats up
