i bought one when i was 15 too..bench, lat pull down, leg ext\curl...and i bought a curl bar..with the weights it was about 1000 bucks..the problem was i didnt have a squat rack, and some other equipment so i got tired of it and got a gym membership lol...my suggestion is if u get a home gym, dont cheap out and just get a bench and curl bar...go the whole 9 yards...get urself a squat rack, a bench, curl bar, a preacher curl seat etc.

I personally train at home. I grunt and make all kinds of weird sounds while lifitng so I like doing it in the privacy of my house.
No putting up with lame gym people that are rude, ignorant and arrogant. No listening to horrid gym music as I train with Pantera or Slipknot and I train with the music loud. More importantly, no expensive gym fee's and no driving anywhere to workout. It's nice to workout and take a shower in your own shower and not having to set aside 10-15-30 minutes to a hour to just drive to the gym. I believe it's well worth the investment. However getting someone to spot for you is hard, luckly I have a roomate that is into training.

virus made some good points there about the horrible music and the idiots at the gym but i have to agree with csmith3518. the gym is very motivating for me. just the atmosphere gets me going.

Thanks heaps for your input guys
I'll be definately looking into getting one if the right dollar amount comes along (I live in Aus). My friend even mentioned a bench set he saw from a shop for around $130. However, I completely agree with one your statements that the gym atmosphere is great. Like i said, Until the right price comes along, I'll be sticking to the local gym. |

I have a power rack in my basement and starting in the summer will workout at my house and agree it'll be a lot better=your choice of music, protein drink immediatley after(though possible at gym),shower at home, and act crazy if needed.
My Power rack is similar to this; with a thick 45lb silver olympic bar though i'd prefer a thinner 45lb bar but don't got the money. Also I have a bench and couple set of Db's to go along. |

If your 15 and ur just starting I would say atleast use a gym membership for a year. Look around see how people do certain exercises. Learn good form, learn new exercises. Its always good to meet new people too and you wont be able to afford 1/23489723894732 of the things you need with 300$.
