Default Bi/Tri Question

ive seen alot of the workouts that have been posted and alot say that you do chest and triceps on the same day... i usually to biceps and triceps on the same day... i see it as... they work kind of together so i lift them together.... could this cause a problem and "over work" my tri's.. because i know you use your triceps when you bench to... or... which would be more effective.. to work them with chest... or bi's....

Actually biceps and triceps don't work together. On the contrary they do the opposite of each other. One use push movement and the other pull movement.

Yes! In the long run you are more at risk of overtraining which is why a lot of people regroup they're workout in push and pull day.

If you're a beginner it would be best to train chest with triceps and back with biceps.

I've worked both biceps and triceps together and got great results.
In fact, only since Sept did I change that method.

Although I must say, after 4 months of training them seperately, I am now thinking it is actually better to do them seperately and I enjoy it more, but I'll go back to doing both together when it's time for a change.

If you plan keeping them together, just make sure not to schedule Arms before or after Chest or Back.
It's hard to adjust a routine to that schedule, but you can do it with some thought and creativity

One of my old routines was (but this is inferior to what I do now)

M - Arms
T - Shoulders
W - Off
T - Legs
Fri - Chest
Sat - Back
Sun - Off

Um, Yes you can do Tri's and Bi's together, they are both near eachother and one will warm the other... But with that said youll be better off doing Tri's with chest...

Why is that? No explanation to back up the statement?
Why is he better off doing triceps with chest?

The facts are, there is no one way that is purely better than another as we as individuals are all different and our bodies will respond differently.

Example being: If a guy has weak and lagging triceps, I'd never recommend for him to work triceps on chest day. Why? Because his triceps are so weak, that after benching, they are probably severerly depleated in strength and thereore they cannot lift as heavy moving on to isolation work.
If his triceps are lagging, he'd be much better suited to do triceps on a different day where they are not depleated before hand from the major chest work.

It all comes down to preference. Personally, i usually advice people to do tris with chest, bis with back. Ive seen that work for almost everyone whos tried it, and better than a separate arm day. But it all comes down to your results- if you are making gains, stick with what you are doing. But for any bodybuilder, your main concern should be your heavy compound lifts- arms will come with time.

I could not agree more. Different situations require different plans. If you pre-exhaust tri's by doing chest first, you will lift less with your tri's. It all depends on your goals and genetics. For a long time I needed to work chest/tri's to get my tri's to respond. Now I work tri's with delts and traps and get a much more complete muscle contraction. Everyone is different and your situation will likely change as your training progresses.

Yeah, so the answer to the original question is: do what you want until it stops working! I think you're unlikely to overwork your triceps doing that. If your bench starts suffering though you know why
