Default Supplement help PLEASE!

Hi, my name is Mike and im new to this site, but here i go. im 18 yrs old 5'7" 145lbsand i play hockey. ive lost a lot of weight to try and get the magical "six pac". i finally got close enough and wanted to put on muscle. ive been taking muscle milk for a couple of months now. i take a serving before and after my workouts.(which it lifting mon-wed-fri and cardio inbetween). i have noticed a little difference in my chest and slightly in my arms. My question is, what should i take to gain more muscle, while keeping my six pac and maybe even getting more cut. i would appreciate any help. THANKS.

Welcome to BB4U Spiderman.
Go on a bulk for a few months - you'll probably lose your 6 pack but when you cut, hopefully you would have added some muscle mass.
Check your diet too.

Muscle Milk is quite expensive. The one I use is ON 100% whey. It's very good value for money and quite a few members here use it.

you should take muscle milk at night, i beleive you will find that it will work better than taking it before and after. before and after is for whey protein. before, 100% whey in milk, after 100 in water

ok good because i have that aswell. how does the muscle milk at night help? i thought that would be bad because of the fats and carbs and it being at night when your body kind of shuts down

whey, a multi vitamin and maybe in like 6 months creatine

Ok so i should stop the muscle milk and go to the whey. im already taking the vitamin, and i dont mean to sound stupid but what exactly does creatine do. my friends take it, but i never really got into it.

Creatine's ability to enhance energy reserves in muscles comes from its muscle protein synthesizing action, while minimizing protein breakdown. This occurs because creatine has the awesome effect of super-hydrating muscle cells with water. It enhances muscles' growth too-making muscle fibers bigger and stronger.

Quite a few studies have been done on creatine to figure out why and how it works so well. There have been over twenty double blind (meaning neither the researchers nor the subjects knew who was getting what), placebo-controlled studies conducted on creatine in the past five years. They proved that creatine increased energy levels, resulting in increased strength, endurance levels, and recovery rates. Another unexpected benefit attributed to creatine was discovered as well: creatine accelerates fat loss, while building lean body mass

however some of that is wrong - not everyone who competes will use it because apparently it gives a round shape to the muscles...food for thought!

interesting I mentioned food 'cos that should be your main supplement

Your body doesnt shut down at night, it repairs muslces, ect.... Muscle milk has a blend of protein containing casein; a slower releasing protein which is perfect for night time. A good meal before bed and in the morning are crucial. Think about it, your body is going to be going 8 or so hours of sleep with no food, you want to be eating a slow absorbing protein before bed, and a big breakfast in the morning when your body is starving.

You don't need the muscle milk as long as you are eating before you go to bed. I personally only use whey.

Make sure you are taking the whey right after a workout.

As far as creatine goes I wouldn't bother with it yet. Stick to a clean, high protein diet, a multivitamin and whey. If, in the future you decide to take creatine do some research on it first. It's always best to do quite a bit of reading on a supp. before you start taking it.

Oh and welcome to BB4U, I play hockey as well.

If you search in past threads and posts on Muscle Milk you'll realize that Cytosport claims that the fats in their blend are in the form of MCT (Medium Train Glycerides). They are not "bad fats", so to speak. Google MCT's and you'll understand that the fat content of MM, according to Cytosport is not in any way bad. MCT's in essence, are used and burnt off as energy.

I personally liked Muscle Milk, the taste anyways and I liked that it was a multi-purpose blend, you COULD use it PWO, as a lean meal replacement, a weight gainer or just as an extra protein boost. This all, I concluded from the ingredients and info listed on the label.

One thing I don't like about Muscle Milk like many products out on the market is the artificial flavor content. In any case, you could always get the "Naturals" kind of MM but that's another story. The taste with the Natural kind is far from the taste the regular kind has.

Muscle Milk isn't proven highly effective, we just assume/hope it is I wouldn't go back to it anytime soon.

i would say still go with the muscle milk. i didnt gain any fat and ive used it for 2 months before sleep. it tastes great too.. its burned as energy (im assuming because i didnt gain fat) and if you gain any fat it would be easy to burn off... but still go with the protein in milk before your workout and protein in water after. eat a whole lot too, good stuff, and not the bad fats
