^^he is correct.
Squats will build muscle, and muscle will help, but if you really want straight-line speed and agility, you are not gonna get it by simply lifting weights. You need to work on sprints, plyometrics, "dot-drills," and other speed-specific training. |

Hey man, Im a wide receiver aswell. Basically just try and stay cut and practice running. When I was in high school I joined all the running teams. It really helps your speed. Squats help too, but don't just assume that doing squats will make you faster.

I am surprised that none of you guys mentioned the end-all for leg training! RUN THE BLEACHERS! I use to run (and I hated every step) the stadium at the University of Maryland. SUCKED!

running is 90% form in my opinion....weight train your legs however you want without worrying about speed...after your leg workout get out side or in an open place in the gym and work on quick feet drills (ie running through speed ladders, doing "dances" through speed ladders....its what the pro's do for speed

form is very important as with anything. but if you focus soley on legs for speed then you will not get everything you can. have a look at the size of olympic sprinters, they got huge upper body as well as lower body. you pump your arms while you run, so don't forget about that either. i'm not sure about your football positions and whats required but try and gear your speed training around what kind of speed your after. theres the small distance sprints, 10-40m or so, or the longer sprints such as 100m. interval training like HIIT with random sprints, plyometrics, increased cardiovascular and anaerobic endurance are very important also. |
