Hi, i am 130lbs 5'3''
i started working out this january and am still keeping up. i used to do ab workout for thirty minutes every other day. however, cause of my busy schedule, i have not been able to do the regular ab workouts that i do since 2-3months ago. either way, i felt my abs getting stronger. the ab workout really did make my ab muscles stronger but did not take off excess fat. i was just wondering what are some ways to get this belly fat off? |

two words: cross country.
But seriously, i tried spot reducing just the way you did. Sooner you see that you can't, the better. Most people at your school probably don't know you can't really spot reduce, and you'll have better looking abs in half the time that it takes/has taken them. |

build the ab muscles with ab workouts. heavier will be better for actually increasing the muscle size. diet and cardio will then take the fat off the top of the muscle. Here is what i think is the best ab exercise ever: cable crunches. I never see too many people doing them and I never see girls doing em but they really are great. You can really feel them targeting the abs.

I have been doing a 3day a weak lifting schedule (doing all compound lifts) and doing some pretty intense cardio on every non-lifting day of the week and have managed to cut a decent amount of fat and keep my muscle mass solid while gaining a little strength. Diet it key though. Count calories for a few days to see how much you are eating and start changing your diet around. |

yes running is great. Everyone should run. i love competing. I think it makes you stronger and more disciplined. I dont see why people get fat then say, "oh...maybe i should start running. run before you get fat to keep you from getting fat." I think it is harder to run once you already are fat. so prevent it and form good habits.

Spot reduction works, but not in the way that you think.
Obviously if your muscles get bigger, the fat is more spread out because your muscle surface area increases. This results in a lower BF%, even though you have the same amount of fat. Example: I have a set amount of paint. If I use the paint to paint a huge room, the thickness of the paint won't be very much. But, if I use the paint to paint a small room, the paint will be thicker. |
