Default black out

i have been weighting lifting really hard for the past couple weeks because it is really close to football season and i want to get my squaut up to about 400. and the past two times that i have been squating i have blacked out on my 5th or 6th rep(i do 4 sets of 6 reps). and then the wieght slams down on the safety rack. i was wondering if i should continue to squat that much, if i should go down in wieght, or stop squating(even though i prolly wont stop even if i need to) but i just want to know. and is blacking out bad for your body. i know its not a healthy thing to do but does it do the body a lot of harm? thanks

Blacking out is caused by lack of blood flow to the brain. This could be because you aren't using correct breathing technique and by the time you get to your last reps there is no oxygen left for the brain.

It could also be blood pressure related. Both aren't healthy for you.

Either way, it's best to see a docter. But if you insist on training, lower the weight and make sure to check your breathing and do a partial valsalva on the eccentric part of the lift (Open your mouth a little and breath out with force. Partial valsalva is what you hear people doing during the eccentric portion of the lift that sounds like they are trying to imitate hydralics on a car, and it raises your blood pressure.).

The only other time I have heard of people blacking out is when they were wearing squat suits, and again that is blood pressure related.

Maybe the position you have the bar resting could be restricting the blood flow to the brain...its just an idea. Going to see a doctor would be a smart idea. If I were to ever black out thats the first thing I would do.
