Default Squating, Leg Press, Or Both?

ive heard that squating messes up your knees and back even with correct form, and right weight...but ive heard that leg press is not as effective as squating. Is leg press as effective as squating?

leg press will isolate your legs. Squat involves top half too.

Im confident you could build big legs without squating.

But theres nothing wrong with either of them so i do both.

Leg presses are no where near as effective as squats. Apart from some machines placing huge forces on the patella tendon & extreme force on the lumbar spine area, the back is taken out of the equation with the leg press - better to hit the leg, hip & back structure for maximum growth.

Saying that, I too alternate between both. The squat is very taxing and overtraining would kick in if I did them everyworkout.

I think my signature gives you my feelings. But I am with Cammo, just to change it up, and give my lower back a break, I will use leg presses too!

Squats do SO much for legs...there is no alternative to them..it truly is the king of all exercises.

They both are good. Leg Press however is not as good as squats are. Squats are still the king of leg exercises.

both are dominant, change it up. try doing leg press with one leg at a time, nice and slow. you'll want to die after, but then again, it is leg day!

Yes. In between sets you find the first married guy you can and smash him in with a 45lbs plate. Makes for good cardio.

Nah, they are just sets where you completely bankrupt yourself and hit absolute failure. Thats the part of the workout where stairs are a challenge and driving a manual car is nigh impossible.

Put on weight that you normally fail at 8-10 reps and do 20 reps. Involves many pauses in between reps, but don't rack the weight.......

Exactly ! I got to 16 and I got so lightheaded, but I managed 4 more. I almost fell to the ground afterwards, I thought I was also going to get sick.

Ha, you aren't ready for the REAL mans workout then.

20 reps for 5 sets.

Garaunteed to put hair on your chest, and if you don't have balls, you'll grow some by the end of the workout
