Im going to college in Florida in a little over a month as a freshman at Miami and at the same time i really wanna get serious about my diet and working out. with college comes dorm life and meal plans and ill be stuck eating cafeteria food everyday..but with good selection i should be able to get some good calories in (clean proteins/carbs/fats/etc..).

ill be able to work out whenever so im not worried in that aspect..just looking for some advice and wondering how u other college guys do it..
thanks

Being in college, I'll respond:

1. Meal plan. Here at UCF our meal plan actually has a badass selection of meat, breads, fish, fruit, etc. I don't know if it's the same.......but avoid the crappy junk foods, pizza, etc. Bring tupperware too and fill it with some tuna, chicken, etc.

2. Get a lil mini fridge and stock it with essential foods for your 6 small meals a day. Chances are you won't be in mealplan 6 times a day. This doesn't require alot of different foods.

3. Shut your room mate up. If you like waking up and staying healthy most nights, tell him he needs to shut his trap and let you sleep.

4. Keep late nights to a minimum. Damn I know it's hard to not party like a madman in college, but try to ration those nights out. When I go out now I usually just stick to one or two drinks max. If you do go out, take the next night to go to bed early and make up for the late night.

5. STAY THE **** AWAY FROM LATE NIGHT FOOD!! I remember people in my dorm used to make mass taco bell runs. This will destroy anything you did that day. Buy some fruit if you really need to eat around 11 or 12.

6. Don't get discouraged. College life doesn't provide a perfect map for body building or perfect nutrition. Believe me I know. Just try your best to do it right. If you don't perfectly, don't worry about it. Just move on.

I'm a senior and have my own place. It's def. easier making my own food, but try to follow those guidelines.

I hope this helped. Good luck in college.

Eat as much as you can when you go to the cafeteria. Bring a bag and sneak stuff out. I was in the habit of fulling up a half gallon thing with milk, and taking 3-4 chicken breasts a day.

Otherwise spend $10 or so a week and get yourself some eggs, oatmeal, and maybe some milk. Eggs you can cook in a microwave in 2-3 minutes, oatmeal is crap yourself easy to make and good energy, and I just love milk It's easy to keep your cals up that way. Especially if you get some oatmeal preworkout.

I got through my first semester this way. Just don't be as concerned with eating clean; it won't happen at a school dining hall.

BTW I got in the habit of going with friends to the 7-11..... 2 for $2 big bites are delicious and irresistable.

Luckily with my apartment with my bros this year, and a budget for food, diet will be much easier. But it definitely isn't hard to keep your cals up while at college. If anything it is easier (I can't go out and get burgers whenever I want at home ) and I made most of my lifting gains while at college.

BTW: Never assume you will run out of meals. I got something like 150 meals for the semester and had like 15 left over even when I went whenever I was hungry. I was getting comments because almost as soon as I got back someone else would be going to the cafeteria and I would go with them to get more food.

i've made good gains while being in school also. i guess you get use to eating because of the downtime. i lift, eat, sleep, study and go to class. i actually can't wait to go back so i can have a gym i can go to regularly now that my membership is almost over. it also helps when you're friends with the people who makes the food. (i know a lady that makes wraps extra big for me and sometimes sell it as something else to me) god i love it

Lmao, the lady at the school quiznos did that for me. I was there just about every day the last few weeks of the college semester. I could barely eat the things cause she would pack it with so much more chicken then usual.

Lmao, yes. Scrambled eggs are super easy. Crack a few in a plastic bowl thats microwave safe, add some cheese and some 2% milk, and stick it in at high for 45sec - 1min. Take it out, stir it, rinse and repeat til you get the consistancy you want. If you go too long without stirring it makes it like a big chunk of rubbery eggs. But otherwise it tastes just like scrambled eggs

That plus a bowl of oatmeal was my breakfast for most of the college year.

yeah its hard to lift and attend school full time, not to mention work

I say that hardest thing for me is the new semester schedules and work schedules messing with my diet plans... it seems like I have to make a new diet every semester lol

it took me a lil while to get my lifting back
but then again it took me a lil time to start it too
first semester college i was sloppy
i came in with my 168
and i went down to about 163
lost a decent amount of muscle mass
after which i gotta foldable bench (sports authority)
got my weights and adjustable dumbbells from home
and restarted back to a decent rate
after a lil time i hit the schools gym up and i was good
...
food habits depend on the school
i goto gw
we have a meal plan and usually can get food delivered at most hours
just key thing to remember is
eating right does not cost all the money in the world

It helps to have a mini fridge in your room. That way when the cafe serves something good(which wasnt real often where i went) you can take down your backpack and load up for a few days.
