Default Couple questions

I'm new to bodybuilding so I just have a couple questions that are probably obvious.
I've read it say in some places you have to workout once a week, other places say three times a week. How often should you workout to get big and stay big?
Also, is doing push-ups every day in addition to your workout beneficial or do your muscles need the time to recover?
Thanks

there's a good starter routine for you...3 times a week - that's best 'cos you can hit all your muscle groups and rest them so you don't overtrain

also, I'd leave the press-ups, there's no real point in doing them since you'll hit your chest enough with that routine
