Default pushups

how good are pushups for your chest? i seperated my shoulder a month and a half ago and still cant lift heavy but i can do pushups... are they effective?

Unless you wear a backpak with weight you wont be achieving overload on them so they wont be growing much. It'll keep them in shape and will provide an increase in musuclar endurance, but as far as building muscle they arent all to great. But if your doing them to just keeping in shape while your shoulder heals thatd work.

ya it should be better then doing ntohing.. i can do dips now but i cant do bench or dumbell press or anythign liek that yet

you could try supersetting tricep dips or close grip push ups with the push ups - either of those exercises before hand will take it out of your triceps, which will then result in most the work being done by you chest when you do the push ups - it'l keep your reps down a bit

ya one more question.. i could prolly do light dumbell inclines declines and flats like 30 pounds maybe... is that better then pushups
even tho before i hurt my shoulder last month i was doing 70's?

Again you wont build muscle but will gain muscular endurance. In order to grow you MUST achieve overload. It will keep you in shape though till your shoulder heals. You could also do what Savvy said about hitting triceps to put more load on the chest. But it seems the best your gonna do till you can be at 100 % is just maintain.
