yeah Whey is definately good for post workout, prework out you should eat some slower absorbing protein around 2 hours before training, as well as some complex carbs. Thus taking advantage of the 'window of opportunity'.
As far as tuna is concerned it isn't that bad, the recent bad press of high mercury levels is somewhat overhyped. This is mainly for the benefit of the intake for young children, as mercury as been found to contribute to inhibiting their learning capacity. Tuna is a good source of protein and theres nothing wrong with eating a couple of cans a week. Here's an interesting link http://seafood.ucdavis.edu/Pubs/mercury.htm |

Real food also works. I mean, shakes arent really needed by anyone. It just protein, the same as eating a piece of meat or drinking a glass or two of milk, or having some cottage cheese. I would reccomend sticking to real food, and only using a shake if you cannot get to a real meal within 45 minutes of your workout. And eat alot of protein before you lift. I usually eat a big meal about 1.5 hours before a workout, it has lots of slow burning carbs and protein. ANd then like 4oz of meat right before i go....just a little something. Shakes arent needed unless you dont have access to food for a while after ur workout...in my opinion.
