That would be more like state record if a 140 pounder could do that, possibly american record. I think it would be respectable for a 140 pounder to max at 200 or 225. That is 160% times what they weight. Very few people can do that. For example a 250 pounder would have to do 400 pounds. Not too many of those guys can do that. So for 140 pounder 200 would be great.

If you guys are doing that and doing it correctly, then you are doing really good. That is a lot better than what most guys on here can do. I would say that at least half of them can not even do their bodyweight. So keep up the good work.

I just love how people in this section tend to be some of the strongest BBers if not weightlifters around. I have seen amazing claims and amazing numbers posted by teens. Some are either really strong, or really suck at math

I have seen a video of a friends dad doing 285 in high school, and he weighed a 145 lbs. It's happened more than once. Peoples bodies are all designed differently. I had a coach who is 5'5" weighs 160, and can bench 335. I spotted him while he did it. Then I also know myself, have been lifting for 3 years, weighed at one time 190 and 8% body fat, and could only put up like 225. But i am built tall and skinny. Everybody is different.

Yes, i agree some people are stronger than others. Strength is proportionate to bodyweight. That is the bottom line. Why do you think that there are different weight classes in powerlifting, wrestling, boxing.... The bigger you are, the stronger you should be. By this I mean that it should most definately be easier for a 200 pounder to bench 250 rather than 140 pounder doing the same. Bodyweight gives such an advantage. Bigger guys like you don't want to admit it, but it is a proven fact. So give us little guys credit when we are benching 50 pounds more than what we weigh. That is a great accomplishment.

seriously. A bench press thread comes up once a week now. I am tired of it. It doesnt matter people. Just improve yourself the best you can. That's all there is to it. The strength, size, and physique comes in time. be patient with it. Just eat properly and lift properly and all you can do is wait over time to see results. If you want fast results, you are looking for the wrong thing.

It is based on your bodies design. Some bodies are designed to push things better than others. Some are designed to pull things better. sue, if you are in shape and have been lifting for a few years, the guy that weighs 200 and is 6'ft should be able to do more than the guy that is 180 and 6'ft. but, still I have a friend who is 6'2" like me weighs 200 lbs, and can do 345. Now, at the point to where i weighed 10 more lbs, could i do 120 more lbs on bench? no way. It's all your bodies design. Weight is no way a direct factor to how much you can lift in any given excercise.

I agree it does come up a bit, but don't discourage these young guys. Give them the credit that they are due, if they really can do what was stated, I doubt it. But, if they truly can, then they are doing great.

me too. Why would you come on here and post such a thing anyway? Do they feel good when you lie to people and people beleive them? Thats called a mental disorder. And eve if they are telling the truth, who cares? good for you, improve yourself. and keep improving yourself. Thats all you can do. Posting your bench press stats gets you know where in life

I would have to agree with bubba on that one. If you can do 2x you bw then you are really doing great and are among the elite. I think that should be a goal that everyone should strive for even if they think they can't do it.

Its all about body stucture and design and how hard you work to improve your strength. I know everyone here has seen the 230 pound 16 year old with 35% bf benching 95 pounds because i have some of those kids on my football team. and then you have the 145 pound kid who's 5'4 and can get up 225. Its all about how hard you puch yourself to excel in what you want to do.
