If you really want to lose fat, you sould be doing lots of cardio. When you lift, you should be doing low weights and high reps. I lost alot of weight doing full body workouts with not too much rest in between sets for a few months. That was even without cardio. But cardio is the main thing if you want to burn off that fat. And clean up your diet. No junk food. Try chicken/turkey/fish and lots of fruits and veges! Also get your carbs from whole grain stuff.

You shouldn't do low weight high reps....it won't help anything (it might burn a few calories, but not like cardio will). Clean up your diet and do cardio 3-4x a week to lose fat. You need to do high weight low reps to build more muscle which will in turn raise your metabolic rate causing you to lose even more fat . Just find a weight that you are only able to do 6-8 reps with on any given exercise and go from there. Just because you have some fat in some areas doesn't mean you cant exercise them. I had man boobs and benches and pushups helped them immensely. Of course, cardio is essential.

lift an appropriate weight to where you can do 4 sets of 10 reps, and come to failure on the last set at about rep 8 through 10. and do it accordingly with all your excecises. around 8-10 reps, with 4 sets of each, coming to failure on the end of set #4. cardio for about 30 minutes, 4 times a week, and clean up the diet.

i cant stress enough how important diet is in ensuring your health, and your figure. if all else fails, stick to a clean diet.

I've never really got the business of why people suggest low weight high reps when trying to lose fat. This will only serve the purpose of increasing endurance. As Traz said heavy weights low rep, helping to build more muscle, invearably reducing the fat!

alrighty now, if you wanted lose weight do these things: drink water, run, don't drink soda, eat more greens and cut back on serving sizes... your "man boobs" wont stop you from lifting at all... its fat, so what? if you do the above steps i said, they go away. Also i agree with what the ppl above have been saying, however, lift light weight and high reps first. Train for two or so weeks on these reps/weight and then move up... if you are new at lifting or just not every strong, lifting heavy could cause you some serious injuries.. and it may take a month to recover.. light first then heavy... also, a nice workout for your arms is to work the Bi/tri muscle groups every two days.. do a 2-3 set 12-18 rep workout.. do two exercises for each group and then rest the following day...
