Well I’ll start from the beginning...well close to it. I went to the doctor after recurring pain in my right shoulder, turned out to be an inflamed sub delt he said, well he said take some alive and put some ice on it for a few weeks and it should get better. But anyways, when I told my parents that I was thinking about taking creatine, my mom wanted to call the doctor to see what he thought of it. A nurse called back for him and said that he did not recommend that I take it, although I think he thought i was going to take it to replace or go along with the pain meds, but actually I didn’t plan to start it until im at 100% again. I told that to the nurse and she is going to have him call me back about it tomorrow. I have done a ton or research on it and the only thing that I found he could question is that fact its unknown effects 10-15 years out.
So my question is what’s a good way to convince him and therefore my mom that creatine is safe? Thanks for the help |

1) creatine does not cause injuries, noobs who do not train with good form get injured 2) noobs who do not cycle creatine are the ones who need to do some research before buying a supplement. 3) its noobs like you that link side effects to creatine and give it a bad rep. If your favourite tv show was cancelled i bet you would be blaming it on the creatine also

the only way to convince a doctor is by finding medical journals and research done by other doctors. creatine is safe to use, ignore what "captain no-brain" in post #2 has said about creatine. thousands of professional sportsmen and women use creatine and their nutrionists also recommend its usage.

My only assumption is that his reasoning is that creatine mono causes bloating and the bloating may increase the cause of the inflamation in the shoulder.
Inflamation in the shoulder is painful because the shoulder is a flexible joint and as you move your shoulder in different angels, you end up squeezing on the inflamed muscle/nerve which causes the pain.

its always tough to convice parents about anything, especially when your health is at risk. My advice is to put all that research to use, print it up, and throw some facts in their face.
It made my parents decide to let me do andro... kidding

fonz please do not impression peoples minds with things you have no idea about. lol. but for you uniden i'd just tell your parents they seel it in the walmart health department how bad could it be? and if that doesnt work buy it and take it without them knowing, because you know it is a safe supplement to use right? what mama dont know wont hurt her.

ok well i wasnt saying creatine was bad or that im sure it was the cause of his inury and i already admit that it was my fault for not cycling but whats up with the hostility? what did i do to you? just cuz you dont agree with what i say doesnt mean you have to attack me outta nowhere. I am not even anti-creatine i like it and in the middle of a cycle right now. your points dont even hold any ground about creatine not causing those effects for me. you dont know anything about how i workout. ill tell you this during that time when i was feeling hurt the only thing that i changed from before was the long use of creatine i cycled before but then heard about some guy who just takes it w/o cycling and thought i should try it. after about a month and a half i started getting the pain and i changed nothing in my workout or diet besides the prolonged used of creatine so i thought it would be that. i stopped and the pain stopped. Just get off the juice b4 the mood swings cause you to go on a rampage Last edited by Fonz; 01-25-2006 at 12:32 AM. |

I'm gonna guess that the pain went away when you stopped using creatine was a coincidence. I have never, in all my days, heard of creatine having that side-effect. I've heard of other more plausible side effects such as headaches, the runs, cramping, but I've never heard of creatine causing ankle injuries no matter how long it's used continuously for.

/\ Bump! Creatine does not cause any form of pain other than the occasional muscle cramp or maybe a headache (monohydrate). Your problems had nothing to do with Creatine or cycling for that matter.

To be perfectly honest, I'd rather see you with a protein supplement. But thats just my opinion, lots of people take creatine, and love it. Personally, I like protein powder better. As for a tip, try a different doctor, cause that one wont change his mind.

I went through a similar thing to with my doctor only she said she didn't want me doing it becuase she has seen to many patients with kidney failure on creatine and my mom was in the room with me with the doctor so pretty much any future convincing was shot down ~_~. as far as convincing goes pretty much everyone else has sumed it up for ya
