For all of you little guys, there is hope. Last November, I was 114 pounds and benched 200 without any equipment and pausing for 2 seconds with it on my chest. I started out in January doing about 150 and moved up 50 pounds in about 8 months or so. I was training to break the bench record for VA juniors, but I was told that I would have to gain weight recently to get a job at a prison that I applied to, so I am. Maybe one day, I can give it another go though. Anyway, don't be discouraged because it is possible if you work hard enough.

I don't believe that you could add 5 pounds a week to your bench press and yet only do it once a week. I know there are all these are work outs and other stuff but, I think that I would If I was you do bench about 3 times a week and get as much protein you can. I am 16 and I bench like 300 so you know I bench a lot and work out 4 to 5 times a week, but my suggestion to you is to do more reps with just a bit less weight because I was doing the 5 pounds a week thing and to me I just kind of hit a bit of a roadblock because I wanted to go up more. I decided to do reps like a month ago and I go from benching like 300 struggling and able to do a rep of 275 when I am concentrated. now a month down the road I can now rep 250 10 times and it will get you max up I would not quite put myself in a time limit because if you rush youself you might not have proper form and you will be surprised how fast you can get done by taking your time instead a limit.
If you do have a date to follow that is different. I would eat before a workout and go for reps one day and max the next just make sure you are not sore. You make look at the numbers I have but I am a lot bigger then you are so don't get discouraged. Dream then aime higher. If you believe you can do it do it to it. MY final advice is do 3 sets. 1st 8-10 2nd 5-7 and third as many as you can. I see a lot of people at gyms doing 5 sets of one well that will barley help you. This would help you more than justing trying to hit you max. |

when i first started benching about a year ago(februaury I could barely get 95lbs but then I started lifting for football over the summer and by august I could easily get 140 and I didnt lift every week either. By mid November I maxed out at 165 and started lifted 3 times a week and maxed out again about december 17th-20th at 185. Now I am in my final week before the next max out and my goal is about 190 to 195 and 225 by may. So what im trying to say here is that when you start lifting your bench will most likely shoot up(if you do it correctly and frequently) so u may be able to add 5 pounds a week when you first start but then you might hit a wall where you will only increase slightly.
My football coach puts my workouts together and they go something like this (for me that is, try to apply you're max weight to substitute for my 185): first 2-3 weeks:3 sets of 8 at 150-155(around 80% of my max) 3-4 week: 4 sets of 6 at 155-160 5-6 week: 2 sets of 6 at 160 2 sets of 4 at 170 we do bench press 2 times a week and db press once a week then every 7th week we usual max well i hope this helps!! |
