Default Life Insurance

So for the 6 months the ole man and I have been talking about the need to get things in order if one of us dies. One if those issues would be life insurance.

It is so intimidating. i have been sorta shopping. But I feel like I cant trust what the person trying to sell me the insurance is telling me.

I dont like to really even think about the subject of one of us being left behind but i realize thats reality. Im just not sure what to do from here.

Whats the best way to go about making a final decision on it and making sure Im not getting ripped off?

I need to get this handle and the ole man wants no part in it .....ugh

It's hard to say. A lot of life insurance peepz are just after your money. Honestly, the best thing you could do is find a CPA or a financial advisor to go over your current finances and your estimable future finances and can reccommend the right amount of life insurance and the right cost. The hard part is finding someone you can trust. I'd help out, but I don't have a lot of experience with life insurance.

LOL - life insurance salespeople are after your money, but financial advisors and CPAs ALWAYS have your best interests in mind... I'm not being sarcastic - nothing has made me laugh like this in weeks. Dude you need to come down here and hang out. lol

I trust my financial people and CPAs like I trust my attorneys... Unfortunately, they are all necessary evils for me.

I would say it's situational. My insurance agent is amazing. I've known him for years, we go to the same church, etc. A CPA is generally a pretty impartial number cruncher but isn't always the most versed in policy when you're talking insurance. Financial advisors depending upon the role, firm, specialization, etc. can be a solid choice but they are also there to make sure the company coffers get their fill. Obviously they want your financial situation to strengthen because you will, in turn, continue to invest with them but even if you lose money they are still getting paid.

Look to non profits, take a few hours to research on your own BEFORE talking to someone. Especially since you're green to the whole process. If you go in understanding the terms and venacular it can make the process much less stressful, plus it helps lessen the chance you're getting taken advantage of.

Outline your goals for the policy before sitting down so when you do start talking with the agent you're not conversation isn't driven towards things that don't apply to you or things that you don't feel are in your interests/budget.

Yeah, thats really important. Go in there understanding things and knowing what you want. There are plenty of free online articles and/or books on purchasing life insurance
