Obama's stimulus package

In Obama's Stimulus package, schools who allow prayer will get no money unless they stop. This is totally unacceptable for America. Please contact your senators and representatives to vote against the stimulus package.

someone's got to drag you forward, let it be Obama - I personally believe that a school should be a place of learning, where children are taught to question theories and come up with their own, thereby allowing the advance of society, technology etc. How can an institution of education possibly allow for complete nonsense theories with no evidence backing them up?
Science and religion quite simply don't go together - if you want to teach your children that they must believe everything written in a book that was given to them by a man, do it at home and give your child the right to actually learn in school.

allowing prayer is hardly teaching them they must believe it. its called freedom of religion.

well from my experience in a few schools, prayer time sorted all the children into several halls, one for christians, one for muslims etc - the atheist/agnostic kids were always shoved in with the christians where they were told complete lies about deities and resurrection and the like

okay, allow prayer on school premises, but I'm pretty sure the stimulus plan is a bit more specific and doesn't rule out praying on school property, just ruling out an alloted time for schoolchildren to pray...which is, frankly, a waste of time when children are there to learn - as an adult, I'd say that they should use this time more wisely, for lessons...as a child, I'd say they should get rid of it and end school an hour early

You are correct, I was under the assumption that this was just a glitch and that the main anti-religious part forbidding the use of money for

"modernization, renovation, or repair of facilities -- (i) used for sectarian instruction, religious worship, or a school or department of divinity; or (ii) in which a substantial portion of the functions of the facilities are subsumed in a religious mission"

would just rule out the use of funds in actual faith based schools...but yeah technically the stimulus package does require the schools to ban religious worship...

but is that really a bad thing?

you know what...reading back, yeah you guys are right, the stimulus plan is completely anti-religion, I should've argued that this is no bad thing rather than suggesting that the anti-religious parts wouldn't be implemented (because they'd be sued!)...I should've just argued that it was no bad thing...

anyways, I actually really want to get banned right now, anyone fancy doing it?

Why don't you pray at home? Why do you want to do it in school? What's the purpose besides to annoy ppl? I'm religious too but I don;t feel the need to go to work and start praying every morning.....Do you?
There is a reason why there is a separation of state and church....the stimulus package is a helll of a lot more important to me than your prayers in school moron....grow up!

I just don't get why we keep mortgaging away the future, spending money we don't have to allegedly "stimulate" the economy yet we have fatcat government officials not saying "we'll cut our salaries, we'll show fiscal responsibility" while people by the thousands are losing jobs and thousands more have been out of work a long time and can't get work, even at a fvcking fast food joint.

It's all fvcking backwards. It's going to get much worse before it gets better, if it gets better.

Honestly these are not tough times yet....but if it gets worse it could possibly get to the point that you will stay in line to get a loaf of bread and some milk...some ppl who are older know what I'm taking about. Then mortgaging the future is the least of your concerns H

Crazy sh*t...in my town I've watched 3 big businesses go out...in my small town this means alot! ....one good thing about being a cop = job security....

Agreed to an extent, but that doesn't mean the gov't should not fund schools because they don't discipline students who pray to themselves. WTF - separation of church & state, means they don't get involved.
