Recently, the price at the pump jumped from about 1.05$/liter to 1.25$/liter in my region...costed me 45 $ to fill up my little civic, that's scary!! It discused me to see those people driving their big SUV or their jacked up full size pick up trucks.
Apperently the price should be around 1.50$/liter this summer. This will have an effect beyong what you pay a the pump. Everything from clothes to food can be affected. Where are we going at this point? We have the second largest oil reserve in Alberta...why aren't we getting more of it?? How much of a worldwide crisis do you think this can lead to??? |

If you NEED a truck for some reason then that's fine, but the reality is that a lot of people are driving those simply because they think it's cool to sit high or whatever. As for saying "they are the ones paying for it, not you", well that is wrong!!! Ever heard of the law of offer and demand? When the demand for a product increases, the prices get adjusted accordingly. Driving big pick up trucks or cars with big V8's, it increases the demand.

gas is not a perfectly competive market, so supply and demand has little do with it, at least not on the part of the end consumer...every day folks like you and me. If it were a perfectly competive market, gas would be produced at a level to match demand, however because of OPSEC and the rationing of oil in order to price gauge, SUVs/Trucks and their gas guzzling has little do with gas prices.

Yes, it's hurting my pocket book, but so are all the other costs of living in California too.
Rent, gas, schools, groceries, etc.. And regards to what you were saying, I drive a big truck, a 2007 FORD F150 AND I dont drive it to "look cool". I drive my truck for the simple reason that if you and I get into an accident, I'm going to drive over you and smash the sh!t out of your car with my under carriage and your car will take most of the impact. It's a safety thing for me. And no, I am not up high enough to tip over with ease, but I am plenty above the bumper line of most cars and alot of SUV's. Who's going to win, if a rhino is running full steam into a dear? Hahaha, no contest my friend. So for that, tis a pleasure to pay more at the pump and be over your bumper line. Small car = Good on Gas = Bad in car accident Big Truck = Bad on gas = Much safer in event of accident (and apparently I look cooler LOL) * ON a side note, I want to change my engine to a diesel engine and run it off cooking oil, thats some great stuff right there and perhaps a wave of the future??? I was watching some stuff about gas like 2 days ago, this guy said that it wasnt gas that was really going up, it was the dollar losing its value because of the war deficit and ****.

I saw at one gas station down the block from me it was 4.59 a gallon...most places it's around 4.10 a gallon. It's getting ridiculous. I don't want to drive anymore. 20 dollers used to fill me up halfway, now it's a little below a quarter tank.
Edit: and small cars are not all good on gas. my IS300 gets about 20mpg highway, everywhere else about 10mpg. |

Yeah, when I first moved to NJ in Sept. it was super cheap, now it's killing me. I'm pretty sure NJ has the lowest prices in the nation, too.

I used to drive a Ford Bronco as a daily driver back in the early 90's with a 120 liter gas tank, I can just imagine what it would cost today to drive it.
I also had a '71 Challenger R/T with a 440 6pack and got 6-10MPG on a good day I'd have to rob a bank daily to drive those two these days...geesh

I have much respect for you but your one paragraph away from saying 'fck yeah, come get some...woooooooo' congratulations, your 'fck you' attitude is a major gripe i have with guys in vehicles that size who have no issue with taking out a family car when they plough into them. 'errrghhh, but then they should get a big car...wooooooooo' your above their bumper line and pretty much your bumper is at their head height when you come smashing into the side of them. It practically over rides any side impact protection regular cars have and plus they will be kissing your bumper before it can take effect. 'errrrghhhh, but that aint my fault....wooooooooooo' Regular cars are designed with a sloping bonnet (hood) so that any pedestrian who is struck head on by it will be pushed onto the hood and the head takes minimal damage. With large 4x4's you just push them down and run them over 'Woooohaaaaaa, i just trundled over the b*tch.... gotta get the kids to clean the under carriage tonight! woooooooo' The thought process boggles me

It's all good Aaron.
But you took it a bit far, my truck is not that high, I am nowhere near head height and I dont have a "fvck you" attitude and would never want to hurt anyone, except if I was fighting in a cage (LOL). * I drive a big truck for the safety of myself and my children (I have 2 daughters)... Thats it, period. You make it seem like I bought it with the attitude that I was going to fvck the world and laughed like a evil scientist as I drove off the lot - hahaha I may have sounded arrogant about it in my earlier reply, but that was an emotional reactionary type of response to the poster who started the thread and made some comments about "guys who like to look cool in big trucks" or whatever he said. So let me get politically correct and rephrase myself: I drive a truck for safety |
