Fact is - Obama would have no heartache about the majority of Americans paying 35-40% of their paychecks in taxes. Those of you who don't think you fall into the "upper class" category may be surprised to find that you and your spouses income does in fact cross that 100K barrier and you'll pick up a nice new tax bill too! BO is an empty suit, who is great at reciting speeches prepared hours in advance. He has no credible qualifications to lead this country. Name something he's done? Something he's led? There is nothing.
Im not worried about it. I know my income and my spouse's income may reach $50,000 if there is quite a bit of overtime on my check.

I don't like Obama but I can't stand McCain. I've feared him running for presidency for 8 years. I can give two chits less whether he's republican, democrat or running for the green party. I've never liked anything he's had to say.

I did vote for Bush in the last election feeling it wasn't a good idea to change presidents during the war. I was also in the Air Force at the time and Bush did give us some nice raises. With that said, I didn't like Bush then either. Now, our economy is in the chits. which is what I figured would happen with Bush. Whether it's the worst since the 30's or not isn't my point at all.

I think our payraises have sucked in the last 8 years. LOL - we had several that were higher in the 90's. (Republican Congress).

Those that see McCain as another Bush have done little to no research or heard/read nothing about him. They are vastly different on many fronts, which is rare considering they are both registered as Republicans. McCain is easily the most "in the middle" or "independent" person in the GOP.

Obama is also different than many in his party - he is easily the most liberal, farthest left of them.

I'll be voting for McCain.

Working a the health food store i hear all diffent type of politcal views, i hear about this one about that one..

Personally i dont knwo what path to go down and frankly its whatever, i learned few things in my 24 year old life span, but one i hold dear to, if the government wants something, a war, oil, to make money in a illegit way, or to get rid of somebody , theyll do it with or without people of america's word...

Yes specific things like the enconomy the president still has a certain say of whats goin on... But..... ultimatly its the back door things that we dont see that actually keeps it running.....

I dunno i wouldnt label myself as a conspiricist, or even a anarchicst, i just have my own beliefs that arent labled, or thrown into a catergory....

And for that i dont know who or if im even voting... thats one right i like to exercise..........

Wee - good points. Alot of folks out there think the Pres makes alot more of a difference than he really does. Without Congress (House AND Senate) - nothing gets done. And - over the last 20 years (Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2) not alot has been done. That is with both parties having the majority at one point or another in the House. However, you can bet that they get their payraise bill passed on time every year.

If people paid more attention as to who they elect to represent them locally at the national level, things would be better. I'm one of those wingnuts who actually write letters (electronic) to the FL Senators and House Reps from my district when they vote for or against something I don't like or if it appears that they voted that way simply according to party lines, etc. I'm actually surprised when I get a response that isn't from an intern, but it does happen. Twice I've gotten an actual letter in the mail hand-signed - both from the same Rep.

If the President had line-item veto capability however, he'd be ALOT more powerful.

Yeah the president i think is just a puppet sometimes, or all the time, i dunno never was president soo i cant really tell you what they really do or accomplish...

Im not a political major either soo i dont know the whole vicious cycle of things that do go on, but from the time america was born to present, things dont add up.....

And bump to above, congress and the senators have more power then the president and people dont realize that , they thig that the president has this almighty hand of god, but in the real life his hand is a wet noodle yanking his crank..... The only thing i would say to above is hand written sigs at the end of letters, there mostly done by a intern or a secaratary that works for him, cause honeslty alot of people do send letters and i dont think a congressman/senator/govenor/ or even a mayor sits in a office all day reading and siging there names to letters, then again im not any of the above soo i can/probally are wrong....

This is very true. We the people really dont have much of a voice in national govt. Thats not the way it was supposed to work.

You nailed it right there. It starts from the bottom up. We here in michigan have one of the best congressmen in the country, Bart Stupak. I worked for him in college and hes just a good person in all aspects of life and he honestly, truly cares about his consitutuents. Hes been in office since '93 and wins in a landslide every election because everyone knows what a diamond in the rough he is. Id vote for him for president in a heartbeat even though hes a Dem.

There are several Dems I'd vote for. I don't vote strictly along party lines. I actually research the candidates, even at the local gov't level. Stupak? Not related to Bob Stupak (Vegas Casino mogul - Stratosphere Tower) I hope. Bob is a coke head and a dip****.

I think as people are realizing how little the President has that our requirement for a candidate are slowly changing. It seems the president doesnt necessarily affect many things directly since decisions have to be passed through so many different people before they are made. That being said, the President is the face of America, he represents us as a whole, his job is to reach out to us and the rest of the world and be the face of the American majority and our decisions and whatever else. Basically, he is there to take the bad rap or the praise, one way or another. Yes, he does have power, but it isn't an all encompassing power that can make or break us according to his own will.

Since we are realizing this, the character of candidates and their personal lives are being considered more and more as what would make a good president. We want someone charismatic, someone who gets along well with a lot of people. Of course we want our president to have good relations with other leaders and to present a reasonable and well spoken demeanor to the rest of the world on behalf of our nation. It just seems to me that each election the requirement we put on these men and women shifts to a more and more personal side, while slowly slipping away from a stricter analyzing of simply political ideas and beliefs. That is what I think is happening, but who knows.
