I think that the "income tax is illegal" and the whole "16th amendment never ratified" argument is incredibly ineffective. Whenever someone brings this up in an argument, you can actually see whomever they're trying to convince get the glazed over, "I'm not listening to your kookiness" look in their eyes.
I feel that taking the approach of demonstrating the waste and negative economic impact of income taxes is much more convincing. It's hard to argue with numbers and sound logic.
People just tune out when you start raving about how since 1913 the government has been involved in a massive conspiracy to defraud the American people of their income through illegal taxation.
I'm not even arguing the point of whether or not the facts are behind Russo's film. Whether it's true or not, it is not the best way to talk to people about downsizing government and tax reform.
