Its not just a bad smell, it actually makes me have a reaction. I go to a university as well, each day i go to class i pass at least 15 to 20 people walking around smoking. It annoys me to no end, that I have to but up with something that has absolutely no positive benefits, just so they can enjoy their unhealthy cigarette. I should have the right to avoid smoke, just as much as you should have the right to smoke cigarettes.
So? You don't like the smell. I don't like massive amounts of perfume or cologne people wear because it makes my sinuses hurt, yet I'm not about to tell them to stop wearing it. People with massive BO in the gym bother me and make me gag, but I don't tell them to take a shower. Someone shouldn't tell me I can't smoke because it 'makes their nose itchy' just like I can't ***** at those people (Or won't because I know it shouldn't bother me that much).

Does car exhaust bother you? Diesel exhaust? The smell of trash? Are you going to get a laws passed against those?

I hate seeing fat people walk around. They take up the sidewalk, and some of them make me gag from their rolls. But do I tell them to lose weight or stop using the sidewalk? I'm having a reaction to the fact it looks like they have tubs of 'I think it's not butter' slathered on like mortar, but I don't do anything out of courtesy.

Even better, people talking about smoking bothers me! Should I get all the smokers together to pass a law for you all to be quiet? All the things I said can't be helped, and honestly, if someone came up to me while walking and told me to put my cig out because it bothered them, I'd probably tell them to 'f*ck off'. It's a free world, and even if something someone does pisses you off, you don't always have the right to stop it because *gasp* they might like doing it. It's called tolerance, and the fact not everyone in America can adapt to make your perfect little world.

Banning something like smoking *even if you think it is the worst thing in the world* is against basic human rights to do what we want to do to ourselves, detrimental or not. If I wanted to I could drink paint thinner, and no one would stop me. I can sit in a closed garage with a car running if I wanted to because of basic rights. I'm not forcing ANYONE to smoke. I'm not blowing smoke in people's faces. If the most I am doing is annoying someone, well, I do that without a cigarette in my hand and I have yet to be banned by the government.

Traps:
I had a grandfather who was 86 years old before he died, and he loved to smoke. 60-some years smoking and never wanted to quit. You're speaking for a group of people when I am willing to bet you never once picked up a cig and a lighter consistently. As it is I limit myself, and after a year and a half smoking I can go a weekend to a week without the single thought of a smoke in my mind.

Besides the fact that half of your examples are completely off the wall! Toxic waste can cause radiation poisoning in one exposure. PCP causes some people to think there are spiders under their skin and they should try to stab them out. Crack? Do I really need to continue? You consider a mind altering psychedelic to something that is addicting but takes 5-10 years constant moderately heavy use to show signs of cancer? Hell half the number of smokers is the equivalent of people diagnosed with skin cancer from sun exposure! Should we ban the sun then? Wear sunscreen or go to jail!

Half of this isn't even the fact I like smoking. It's a basic right to smoke if I want to! If something like this happens, what is next to be banned? Hell I ride a motorcycle, should I be afraid a group of people aren't going to like bikes all of a sudden and ban them too?

Its not that i dont like the smell, its that i have an allergic reaction to the smoke itself. Guess why, it probably has something to do the with the fact that cigarette smoke has a bunch of things in it that arent healthy, and arent meant to inhaled, that might be part of the problem.

Smoking is different from seeing fat people, or cologne, because it can actually harm another person. The only other thing you listed that can do that is exhaust from cars. But to be honest, cars are almost needed for survival. TO get people to jobs, and to various places, they are a necessity for us to go about our lives. Cigarettes are not a necessity, they are an indulgance, one that not only effects you, but everyone around you.

You don't have to agree, and i know people won't stop smoking because others wish not to be around it. Its just sad when you see kids who grow up around parents who smoke, and see them having lung problems, and respiratory issues. The point is, a smoker is making those around them breath in unhealthy chemicals, even if they do not want to. I find it kind of selfish to make other people do that. But whatever.

Re: Toxic waste
I take pride in the fact that you only read my posts, instead of the entire thread, and pick things that I say and blow them out of context.

Re: Me
I will not argue with you. You are young and lack the life experience that will bring you to a level of maturity and wisdom needed to make sound judgements. Remember this thread Caferacer. Remember it well. I hope it always plays in the back of your mind and you do not become addicted like most everyone else. Afterall, it wouldnt happen to you right? Stay strong young man. Your not even out of college yet.

What can I say, traps has great points here and agree for the most part (haven't read every post). These things kill and they kill so slowly. Just b/c some people long ago didn't ban the stuff (some countries did) b/c it didn't make hallucinations and turn people completely insane does not make it ok and harmless. This is how MOST addictions start. "Other people do it, but this won't happen to me. I'll do it every once in a while." YEAH RIGHT!!!

LOL @ Caferacer. Typical immature kid. Almost like the "going to kill my roommate thread".

BTW, what do your trainees think of their PT that takes all those damn stims (albuterol, caffeine, cigs, no-xplode)? Just playin' bro.
