Mit Romney being LDS (Mormon)
Would you automatically not vote for him because of his religion being he is mormon?
There has been a lot of heated debate about this, and it turns out he is the top republican candidate for the white house, but many people, mainly other christian religious groups, say that they wold not vote for him because of his religious views. Christianity also makes up the greater part of the Republican support. Personally, if an islamic man was running for US president and had politics i agreed with, his religion ould not affect my vote for him. what do you think?

Okay, your opinion is fine but can you explain your reasoning?
What about Romney being mormon makes you not want to vote for him? or rather what about mormonism makes you not want that in the white house? I am mormon and i would not vote for him automatically for that reason, If i did not agree with his politics, i would not vote for him. and that is being honest. Would he have your vote over Hilary Clinton?

mit romney is a mormon, but there are different sects within mormonism
he has only one wife and a few kids, the sect to which he belongs is no wackier than catholicism or protestantism or baptist (not to say that any of those religions are wacky) i am willing to bet that he has never gone door to door on a huffy with a helmet and kneepads over a suit trying to convert people

i dont think he is the top GOP candidate. Rudy is leading every poll i ever saw. him being a morman has nothing to do it for me. if i agreed with his views i would vote for him. i think religion should be taken completely out of politics anyway. there is no way i would vote for a muslim though

Bufflurp, I bet you're sorry you asked ! But not everyone looks at Mormons as freaks, me included. So don't take it personal. People fear what they don't know. What they know is like that show on HBO, which may have some basis in fact, but what they show is not the mainstream Mormon family.
I don't think Mitt has a shot at it - most Americans won't vote for someone who isn't "like them". I'd vote for him if I agreed with his position on big issues.

No, I'm not sorry i asked. What i do know is that people really dont know anything about mormons, the people or their lifestyles. It is hugely misconcepted.
The reason i started the thread wa to have people realize that mormonism really isnt weird. Or, let me say that the people are not weird people, they are very normal actually. I dont want this to start any type of discussion about the religion. because its been done before, but when people say that Mit Romney is automatically discounted because of his religion that is really being shallow. especially when people dont even know what mormons really are.

These churches are not recognized and are wished to be disassociated in anyway from the original church.

I don't have the faintest idea who Mit Romney is but I do know that the mormons are very persistant at trying to push their beliefs down other peoples throats - there is already enough of this type of behaviour in regards to world politics as it is - any morons (sorry....I mean mormons) in a power of position is likely to abuse their power to force their beliefs even further on the public.
