I see a lot of wonderful parents and spouses here.
Like Big Boy, our family does not watch T.V. We find it mostly offensive and a major time waster.
One night three years ago my husband came home with what I thought was a super Duper Pizza. I was starting my rant on how he shouldn't be buying take out pizzas and.... He throws it on the table with a big smile. Clunk! A crokonole Board. So Daddy taught all my little brood (4) how to play and it worked for all. We have also discovered other board games and Bought a pool pass. That is very entertaining and almost everyone swims. My parents pay for all the lessons in lieu of Birthday and Christmas gifts. This has been one of my best ideas. How many toys can the kids have? I nearly feel like mother Terese with all the stuff I have pushed on people. And can you get outside to play volleyball? I find teenage girls love it. I leave my ball in the truck in case. My girls love it. They are 9 and 11.
And, being marriedgirl, I must suggest work on your marriage.
Everyone should. "If you love your kids, love their Mother," my Brother in law says to other guys. Dinners alone with your wife. Pick up a nice romantic classic chick flick like "Pride and Prejudice." But that's six hours long. Something shorter. "Braveheart." Or my fav. "Sense and Sensibility." Drink some green tea and see what happens. Hopefully things will get better and better. And don't mistake peace in your life as boredom.
All the best!

I think maybe my relationship is peaceful, my mind is just so active all the time that I feel like I should be doing something. My son and I play, catch, tennis, hit golf balls, or skate board. Its tough to do stuff with my daughters because they are at that age where their dad is not so cool. but I still talk and mess around with them. My wife and I are really close (compared to Japanese relationships) and go out for coffee all the time, go shopping together, play tennis together, hit golf balls together, she teaches me to sing sometimes, and dont laugh but I will do Billy's Boot Camp with her *hangs head in shame*
Im in the military so I'm used to things being fast paced so when I get home things are a little slow to me.
My wife and I are really active people though, but she is a little older so she can sit and watch TV for a while. My kids only watch about an hour of TV a day while my wife will watch maybe two hours. I watch maybe and hour but I dont like watching TV very much.

Crosswords and Mensa puzzles in between interval training(cardio!!!!). I have been in the army and I understand about the crazy business of going nuts and flat out. You'll get used of the pace eventually. I am not in the army now. Running helps me. Got to tire myself out.
And I am glad your relationship with your wife is steady and peaceful. Alot of men could really do with that!

This is a great post...but I will also say WTF is spare time? The little spare time I have is spent with my wife or playin with my kiddos. An MAYBE if the kiddos go to bed early I can do some humpin....

but the best time is when my wife and I go to bed and can lay there, have some adult conversation, talk about our days and the kids and thank the lord for how lucky we are to have 2 happy/healthy little boys (and one on the way) and for all that He has given us.
