Default Anyone with Kids - Expensive Formula

Posting this wondering if someone else has to purchase this formula out of pocket..........our daughter has food allergies (so did our son, but not as bad) and the doctor recently put her on some very expensive formula.

Unfortunately our insurance company doesn't cover it, so have to pay for it all. It costs us around $400 / month. Certainly it will increase, as she grows and eats more. I have looked and looked, but can't find any kind of way to get the gov't / insurance company to cover some of the cost.

Any other parents out there had this issue? The formula is called Neocate Infant.

Thanks!

oh man, that sucks.

whenever we are at sam's club and go by the formula aisle, I remember how glad I am that the twins no longer drink it.

No help on the assistance though, the twins were able to have regular enfamil.

Did you have the physician contact your insurance company? Do you have a Rx benefit, that is handled by a vendor...like Medco, MedImpact, etc...or does your insurance do medical and pharmacy? I found this article, this guy was able to get help paying for it through his rx coverage.
http://www.fool.com/news/commentary/...ry06081410.htm

Never take no for an answer from your insurance company. I work for insurance and you just have to appeal and appeal and appeal...someone will eventually get tired of your appeals and pay it.

I remember the formula days!!! $$$$$$

My daughter was on a similac soy for a few months and then good start...

I always picked up the powder since it was cheaper and would make it as she needed it!!!

Hopefully you don't have to pay for daycare too!!!

Nah, my wife stays home.

She went from normal stuff, to soy (which is expensive anyway), then to this.......

Did you search for coupons online??? Sometimes the manufacturers send coupons.. I still get em, and K is 4.. I wish I had someone to give them to.

Lucky about the wife @ home.. I spend over $1000 a month on daycare...
GRRRRRR !!!!!!!!!!! Thats my new Lincoln Navigator right there and possibly a used vette!!!

LOL.. Priorities.. we have to have em...
Next year she is off to school... so I will be saving a whole lot of cash!!!

Nah, this isn't something you can get anywhere except directly from the manufacturer.........

Yeah, she started staying home with our son, right after I shelled out 10k for her to get her Masters! lol

Try the Hanna route!!! Keep pestering your insurance and talk to the doctor.

My company makes gerber products and I get them cheap... too bad we starting carrying alot of the good stuff after my daughter was already eating table food!!!

When it comes to kids, ever penny counts!!!

Good Luck!!..

i breastfed for over a year with Chase, but I do know when I was pregnant & getting ready for him, unsure what I was going to able to do, I subscribed to everything online & got tons of coupons for formula - maybe try that?

i'm sorry, i was lactose intolerant as a baby, i know the frustration......good luck!

Just an update to this............we finally got insurance to cover it. After many, many phone calls and appeal letters - they finally agreed to cover it. I think they just wanted me to leave them the f*ck alone. About a week ago, we got a year supply in the mail - that is almost $5k worth of the stuff. lol

Bad news is, out company switched insurance companies, so I will have to start over. At least I have a year supply while I fight the battle again.
