depends where ur priorities stand. how important is money to u? and remember, no1 is safe (not being cynical, i mean, no matter where u r ur in danger). definately talk it over with ur family for a while, not something to b taken lightly.

^True, but if you do go. Claim to be canadian a, incase your an american, a... Just add a "a" after everything you say, a.
But serously I'm just joking.. How many people claim this location to be safe? Thats a hard decision to make.. If it were me, I would do it. But I dont really have much to loss, while you have a family..

warri087 - Priorities are def to my wife & kids, but feel the same way as you....danger is everywhere.
casey - I know 7 people who have gone for 6 mo - 1 year. All of them know people as well.....they all say the same thing......it is no where near any battle. At this point though, I am 99% sure I am NOT going to do it. Just wanting to hear some opinions on the matter.

if you were single, would you have gone anyways? My dad could've done contract work in Turkey in 2003 but he said too dangerous. I'm sure he would have racked up a ton of money had he gone.
As a son, I would have been lost it if I were to lose him. 4x is a lot though.....

. and i wish i could give u more, but i dont have ppl who depend on me, as much as i could try to empathize with the situation, its very hard. and for me, money is secondary, otherwise i would've chosen to study engineering at uni, and not philosophy...lol |

Im not sure about what your job offer is or who is offering it but with that police job that keeps getting offered, its by a private company. So, if the military decides to just leave the country(which I doubt will ever happen) you are still stuck in your contract and you cant just leave.

well we have struggled with this too. My husband could go over and make enough to pay off the house and then some, but after much thought it is not worth it. I don't want to be a single mom for a year, maybe forever, and the possibility of what could happen makes it not worth it. If we didn't have any income and were struggling with survival, then maybe, but we both have good jobs and the time spent away and everything that is missed...we decided against it.
I had to deal with him deploying to Afghanistan for a year and he remembers how much he missed, how miserable he was and it is just not worth it. |

Nite - Nah, it is with the gov't. It is only a year contract.
Hanna - I know that is what just blows my mind. We could have enough to pay off our house, and both kids' college, and then some. It could be over 500k if I milk the overtime. But, yeah - still doesn't seem worth it at this point......
